Typical Food Network style show. With that said, nothing beats their version of Spooky Competition. It screams Art, Fall, Cold, and Full Blown Halloween!!!
The latest season of Outrageous Pumpkins has an excellent collection of carvers! I love the fall pumpkin patch set along with spooky lighting for the evening shots. The format consists of a small challenge in the beginning that gives one of the contestants an advantage in the main challenge. Carvers must use a variety of pumpkins, squash and other vegetables on hand for their pieces. The carvers can also add special effects in the form of motorized moving parts and lighting.
I knocked a star off because the show has had a variety of hosts. I enjoyed Allison Hannigan and Sunny Anderson as hosts. Not as thrilled with Damaris Phillips.

I began watching season 3 of Outrageous Pumpkins and I am hooked! The incredible creations these carvers come up with are just amazing. I especially like the pumpkin patch and how it's set as a backdrop for the show. I have gone back and watched the other two seasons and enjoyed every episode . I am also becoming familiar with a few carvers who have participated on other Food Network shows like Halloween Wars! That is another show worth mentioning. I enjoy seeing regular judges who are well known for their talent of the same. An awesome display of every type, color, & size of pumpkin to select from as the carvers who apply their skills! Brava! Hoping to see S4?
Idk why they have copied the "Nailed It" girl and
pasted her screaming and yelling here. Almost have to watch the show on mute it's so unbearable. I ride the remote as much as possible but there's times when out of nowhere she starts screaming. It adds nothing to the show whatsoever and is beyond annoying. Really takes away from the artists and their work bc it's so distracting. (Side note I have autism and sensory processing disorder and loud things really bother me. My opinion is not meant to offend anyone or apply to everyone) Aside from her loud mouth the show is super cool to see their talents and is a nice addition to the Halloween vibes line up :-)
Outrageous Pumpkins is fun and inventive but it suffers from a fatal flaw: a harsh edge to the judging, especially by Terri Hardin. She doesn't judge as much as she is harshly judgemental, overbearing, arrogant, and off-putting in the way she treats contestants. There is a place for Gordon Ramsey-style criticism but not on a family program such as this. Other holiday food, baking and cooking programs always provide positivity in their critiques of the work, in keeping with the fun we look forward to during these special seasons. It's time the producers brought back the fun, fantasy and whimsy the program originally offered and re-imagine the judging with fresh and talented professionals who do not have attitudes.
