Whitstable Pearl (2021)

Trivia

Whitstable Pearl

Edit
Based on the series of novels featuring Pearl Nolan, a Whitstable Native and recent "empty nester" and Chief Inspector Mike McGuire, transferred from a London Force. When Pearl opens a detective agency, in the Harbour town of Whitstable, things start to get very interesting... Series 1 is based on the first novel "The Whitstable Pearl Mystery" and the fifth "Disappearance at Oare".
On 29th November 2021, Acorn TV announced that they have commissioned a second series of the crime drama for 2022. Filming on series two is scheduled to commence in February 2022.
Frances Barber who plays Pearl's mum is sixteen years older than Kerry Godliman who plays Pearl
The theme song, credited to Carly Paradis and sung by Alev Lenz, appears to be an adaptation of several traditional sea chanteys amongst them 'Ring Down Below' and implies an assignation at the white post of the town's name. Online interpretations of the lyrics (and what their extended form might take) vary, none definitive.
According to the Domesday Book of 1086, the town at the meeting of the Thames and Swale was known as Witenestaple: "the meeting place at the white post", a reference to a local landmark.
