The Pioneer Mother statue on the Univ. of Oregon campus can be glimpsed who was erected looking across the street at the Pioneer Father statue, this at a time when women were first admitted and the street between them was a line dividing the men's side from the women's side of the campus. The idea was they could look but not touch. Christine in the movie suspects her dead mother is trying to influence her from the grave to keep her apart from her boyfriend James.
