feels so good having Dexter back

It is just getting better and better. Can anyone say goodbye to Dex? Like ever?

The scene with Dexter commenting on the wallpaper cracked me up. The only serial killer I can relate to on many levels!

The episode was hands down the best so far.

    An Angel Appears

Just when I thought this series was headed for the abyss, Angel Batista appears. I wrote previously how much this relaunch missed the old cast. In my review of Dexter (the original series), I wrote that Angel was the best cop on the force and one great character. So, he showed up, and suddenly this series started to hit its stride. The tension returned; Dexter's inner monologue was funny again; and the plot commenced to thicken.

I still wish someone would kill Deb-again! And the blogger is annoying in the extreme, but halfway through, it looks like this new series might have found itself.

Felt like the old Dexter episodes

The first 4 episodes were a little slow, not much happened aside from some character development. But this episode ramps things up real fast. It felt like the old classic Dexter episodes; Dexter on the hunt, stalking his next victim, outsmarting the police, staging crime scenes - ah, it was glorious. Not to mention a sweet cameo that appears halfway through the episode. I couldn't have been the only one that cheered. I wasn't expecting the revelation at the end to happen so soon. It feels like the next five episodes are going to move the story a little fast. I hope this isn't a one off season, because it feels like there is still more story to tell. Another season or 2 should be enough.

    Great episode.

    Hello, Dexter Morgan

My god this revival is everything i could have hoped for and more.

Dexter feels like how he did in the earlier seasons. Tethering on the edge of murder and lethal. Its clear that this season has been crafted with a lot of love.

There isn't any fat here at all. From people getting closer and closer to learning who "Jim" really is, to Dexter learning more about Harrison's true nature, to the interesting murder case in the background, every episode is paced so well.

All the side plots are interesting, and its shaping up to be one of the best seasons yet!

Dexter New Blood is back on track

After the last two lukewarm episodes, episode 5 comes with a bang. To be honest, I do not think Harrison is as street smart as he claims to be, specially when he takes drugs just because he is feeling rebellious/angry towards his dad, it screams more "I am spoiled" than "I am independent", Harrison is practically behaving just like Matt Caldwell. Also, shoutout to "freaking Logan", is not he an overachiever for such a small town cop? Kinda giving sgt. Doakes'; feelings, not to talk about the Chief of Police that is doing the same thing Deb used to do, I am not really sure how I feel about those two, but they are making things move forward.

One of the best things in this episode is seeing Angel again, I like his character so much, such a shame it feels like it will be just a cameo.

    • Trivia
Michael C. Hall (Dexter) is singing the closing credits to this episode.
    • Goofs
Dexter injects Miles to knock him out when the police car drives up. Next scene, Miles is brought into the station none the worse for wear. He should have been passed out on the ground. No mention is made to his having been drugged.

Mis-understanding of the situation. He did not carry through with injecting Miles because of the police car driving up, so he started fighting instead. Miles wasn't drugged.
    • Quotes

Dexter Morgan: We think we have it all figured out. We think we can control things. Fix them. That we can keep life moving forward on the path we've chosen. But all that's standing between us and chaos is a tiny, fragile thread.
