Not a bad film at all
Faced with impending doom from a planet-killing asteroid, a couple flee to the hills of Tennessee to spend their last days together - but the chaotic breakdown of society disrupts their peaceful plans.
I didn't expect much from this as the only actor I recognised was Dee Wallace. When the film first starts I also thought, 'typical B movie'. Boy was I wrong.
There's elements in there of old tropes like man who just won't die, man rescues his woman, woman rescues her man, and a fair few other ones.
But the truth is it's a great film with slightly poor dialogue at times, great editing, sometimes average acting but sometimes great acting, and a really good score. I'm very pleasantly surprised by this and give it a solid 6.

Successfully sad and depressing atmosphere
I didn't really mean to watch this. Really. It just came on! It's rare for a movie to be boring, stupid and very depressing. Well, it's not always boring, but it is a lot of the first two. It's exactly what the title says it is, so there's not a whole lot to write about. Brief shots of the usual pandemonium in city life that these kind of movies usually have, so this somewhat lovely couple go out into the middle of nowhere for an idyllic end of times, but even there are some crazies trying to kill them for no reason other than to do just that. I was curious about the need for cash in a food store that these two had to pay for their end of the world picnic when it would all be blown to bits by a huge asteroid coming to earth. Perhaps the cashier was part of those who thought it was all a government conspiracy that we get, thankfully, only get a glimpse of. Then there was this incredibly faithful and lifesaving pooch who has been with them all of one day. The two leads weren't bad and it was nice to see Dee Wallace again, but not in this.
Dumb people who are also incredibly unlikeable
I mean, are we supposed to be pulling for these people. The world is going to end so you get a lot of bad people out of the world work and that would probably happen but the main couple, besides just being incredibly unlikable, they were just dumb.
You see other reviews here points out some absurdities in their actions so I won't repeat but man, there comes a point where you're hoping the guy in the red shirt succeeds because everyone else is an idiot in this movie. And let's point out, red shirt guy was also overacting to the point of cringiness. I mean yeah, the dialog is stifled a lot through this but come on, give us something to root for, make us care about something.
As it is, the ending was okay because if you watch this you will hate everyone including the writer and director.

Saw this screening in Dallas.
It was a great movie and gave us something to think about. What lengths would you go to how would you get there? And who could you turn to?
The movie was filmed in the Tennessee mountains. As good a region to film this as it gets. It had all the elements needed to for the perfect backdrop. The movie was chilling and truthful. Poignant. The main characters had the full attention of the audience. I will see it again. Great job!
The Q&A after the screening offered behind the scenes explanations, not that they would needed, but was something extra that gave us insight to the creation of the movie.and the sculpting of the characters.
