There were only going to be two Camp Blood short films. The story of Lost Tales from Camp Blood: Part 2 (2009) was originally just a prologue and Part 3 would make up the rest of the story. The week before shooting, the decision was made to produce three short films, thus Part 2 was extended into the longest of the three.
The insert shot of Sarah being stabbed was shot during post production in a park a mile away from where editing was taking place. The effect consisted of a bucket of fake blood, a piece of mattress foam, the large tree-branch, and a few light-blue shirts that matched the one worn by Lori Caulfield. The shot was done in a small park with children playing not 20 feet away. The blood that splatters onto the lens was added in as a visual effect.
Principal photography took place in a canyon above Pasadena, California. During the shoot, the temperature grew so hot that the camera batteries would inexplicably die in certain spots of direct sunlight, forcing the crew to abandon certain shots.
The project was originally going to be shot using 35mm Nikon prime lenses and a 16x9 anamorphic adapter, producing an anamorphic 2.39:1 image in camera (although squeezed). Tests revealed focusing and vignetting problems and that the process would be to cumbersome for the quick guerrilla-style necessary for the production. In the end, the footage was shot 1920x1080 and cropped to 2.39:1 in post production.
Shot in three days. One full day, one half day, and the makeup fx insert on the 3rd day.
