Redt'Blue (2022)
REDt'BLUE tells the story of Mansfield, a former pit down born off the back of the coal industry, which shocked the nation when in 2017 it became one of the first constituencies of its kind to abandon its Labour Party heritage, stretching back almost 100-years, and aim to find a brighter future under Ben Bradley's Conservative banner.

Jay Martin effortlessly blends local history national politics whilst staying true to the events, the people and the sentiments both then and now.

Content, directing, cinematography were impressive and very high quality. For me, it was even more impressive the way that Martin took the time to make a film about Mansfield and about a very significant event. I believe that this kind of film done in this way is very good for our area. On top of that Martin picked something that is significant to our town and our nation. He effortlessly combined historic footage with current political feeling and managed to capture, without being partisan, the sentiment of hope that sits behind the events. The poem at the beginning and the title Red t'Blue are master strokes and show that Martin understands the subject matter in its own dialect. I mean that in a literal and metaphorical way. He's captured something significant and more than that he's done it justice. Well done Jay Martin.

    • Trivia
The film takes an entirely neutral look at the factors which led to this historic change taking place. Director Jay Martin has always maintained that this story is interesting enough, without the need to inject a political perspective on the viewers.
    • Goofs
The Clipstone Headstocks, featured prominently in the film, are not actually within the Mansfield constituency. They fall under the neighbouring constituency of Sherwood. Despite this, they still tower over much of Mansfield town.
    • Quotes

Mick Newton: Mansfield was born off the back of the coal industry, and I do think we need a constant reminder of where we've come from, and where we are now.

    • Crazy credits
As the credits roll, an 8mm film plays of a mineworker on his way to work at the Clipstone Colliery during the miners strikes of 1971. This man is in fact Lee Anderson's farther.
