- Mandy Finch: Now, this may not be the story of knights in shining armor, but dragons and heroes it certainly has. This is my friend Billy, and today on his 11th birthday, the fate of Spirit River will land in his hands. Spirit River is one of the oldest towns on the eastern seaboard. And legend has it, if you believe in that kind of stuff, that it's where the Vikings first came ashore in the New World. Now, trying to save a whole town isn't an easy job for an 11-year-old, but luckily Billy had some help, from us. That's me and my other friend Devon. And this is our story.
- Mandy Finch: Did you know that octopi change their color when they're frightened?
- Katherine Owens: Did you know that friendship is the strongest bond between two friends?
- Devon Turner: Make that three people.
- William Owens: I think you mean four people. Believe in your friends, Billy, and yourself. You can do this.
- Billy Owens: We're ready.
- Billy Owens: This place is...
- Devon Turner: What?
- Billy Owens: Familiar. Feels like I've been here before.
- Mandy Finch: Deja vu?
- Devon Turner: I'm not into voodoo. My brother says it gives you gas.
- Mandy Finch: Not voodoo, you twit. Deja vu. Deja vu is the illusion of having already experienced something actually being experienced for the first time.
- Billy Owens: That's it. It's weird, but I think we'll be back. And soon.
- Billy Owens: I can't even protect myself from Kurt Nemees. How am I supposed to find a treasure with half a map and a bicycle?
- Mandy Finch: A hero is properly defined as somebody who does something dangerous to help somebody else.
- Devon Turner: Great. Where do I sign up?
- Mandy Finch: I mean, that it doesn't matter if you succeed, only that you try.
- William Thurgood: Billy, you can be very powerful with some lessons and some help from your friends. There is nothing you can't do.
- Billy Owens: So, where do we start?
- William Thurgood: I believe it would be prudent if we start at the beginning.
- Barnabus the Troll: William Thurston Owens III, I presume.
- Billy Owens: Could you help us?
- Barnabus the Troll: I'm here to warn you of the dangers found beyond the river.
- Devon Turner: In the lair? Is it your lair?
- Barnabus the Troll: It's Nemeseus', and I fear even the speaking of his name.
- Mandy Finch: Well, we're not afraid.
- Barnabus the Troll: You will be.
- Mandy Finch: Real heroes aren't knights in armor or men in capes. Heroes are those people who are willing to fight for what's right, not knowing if they can do it or not. Billy knew he had to try and we knew we had to help him.
