I only have watched a few episodes with my children and we love the show. As it is realistic and has so many lessons within the episodes. My son first watched it in school to learn about bullying and he wanted to show it to me. I love that it's teaches him that bullying is wrong, that people can be unique, to love his hair and micro aggressions. We will continue to watch the show.
I love that it addresses issues that many kids face but don't know how to deal with. It covers anything from hair styles to bullying to friendships. SO many topics that I never knew what to say when I faced them as a kid. It also promotes friendships, honesty, loyalty and some positive things that are lacking in so many other shows. A positive influence, Great music and a nice approach to family as well. I love this show!
This is a very entertaining show for all children. (my 6.5 y/o loves it) My daughter is white, but it's important for all children to see a black girl as the main character. It teaches important lessons on many "growing up" issues. And the issues of race and micro-aggressions are important for all children, so that they don't make their black friends feel "different".
It might be intended for black girls to learn to be proud, and stand up for themselves, but it also teaches their friends not to treat their black friends as "different" or "not normal" It's hard for a white parent to teach these things to our children, but a cool, fun show like this makes it easier.

This show is so relevant as it addresses so many social issues kids face in a very entertaining way. My kids have watched this twice already. Well done to the creative team!
Love her character: beautiful, positive, kind, imperfect but willing to learn and be better. Talented, smart, brown skinned girl with big hair. Love it.
