The closing credits mention that at least 140 people died during the attempt to cross the Berlin Wall. This is not entirely true. Not only is the exact number of deaths at the Berlin Wall unknown, this amount of 140 people also includes 30 people from East and West Germany that were killed without attempting to cross the border, e.g. because they were too close to the Wall or were apprehensive about trying, and 8 border soldiers who died during their duty; not to mention people who died natural deaths near the Wall.
Edith Salzmann is portrayed as the first female train driver, driving a steam locomotive. There were no female train drivers in the DDR until October 1961, and none of them ever drove a steam locomotive.
Edith says that The Big Country (1958) is her favorite movie. She is portrayed as a woman who loves living in the GDR, so it is very unlikely that she saw this movie as it was never broadcast or shown in the GDR.
