My favorite political TV show is back, and not a moment too soon

Season 5 of "The Circus" concluded right after the presidential election in November, 2020, which was only 2 months ago, but in many ways it feels like 2 years ago, doesn't it? So much craziness and lawlessness from Loser Trump since then, and it appears he isn't done yet. Thankfully "The Circus" is back with Season 6. Mark McKinnon, John Heilemann, Alex Wagner and Jennifer Palmieri are all back on the job.

Episode 1 "Reigning Chaos" (52 min.) of season 6 of "The Circus" is the show at its very best, for many reasons. As Episode 1 opens, it is "Monday", the day before the Georgia Senate runoff elections, and the hosts are pondering whether Republican voters can make any sense of the conflicting messages spread from the very top (Loser Trump) on down below, namely that the November elections were "rigged" and "stolen" (claims made without any evidence), yet that voting in the Georgia Senate runoffs are "crucial to save the country". Palmieri is at the Dalton rally where she interviews Trump supporters while Loser Trump keeps wailing about the "rigged" and "stolen" November elections. You can see and feel the tensions rising on Tuesday, in particular as results are starting to come back that evening. Wagner is at a TV watch party, and a pro-Trumper dryly comments to her that "the violence will start tomorrow". Which leads to the stunning and sickening events on Wednesday. Watch and listen carefully to the incendiary remarks at the pro-Trump rally by Don Jr., Rudy Giuliani, and of course Loser Trump himself. The fallout (political, historical and otherwise) of the storming of the US Capitol will be felt for years.

Episodes of "The Circus" typically run about 30 min. But of course there was nothing "typical" about what all happened last week. Episode 1 "Reigning Chaos" premiered this weekend on Showtime and is now available on SHO On Demand and other streaming services. My heartfelt thanks to Showtime for their continued support of this important show, and an even deeper appreciation for McKinnon, Heilemann, Wagner and Palmieri for their outstanding reporting. If you care about political reporting based on facts, not on lies, delusions or conspiracy theories, I'd readily suggest you check this out, and draw your own conclusion.
