Okay, so I really don't get why Sakristan has such low ratings. Sure, the budget is obviously tight and the editing isn't exactly polished, but the story? It's bold, meaningful, and actually had me hooked.
This series is very brave in its narrative. Mixing LGBTQ+ themes with religion is no easy task, especially in a country like the Philippines, where that topic is still super sensitive. I honestly admire the guts it took to tell this kind of story. It's not your usual BL fluff, it dives into issues like homophobia and internal conflict, which makes it heavier but more real.
That said, fair warning: the series does include some scenes and themes of homophobia, so be prepared for that. And yeah, the acting can be a bit cringe at times, especially the guy who plays Christian. He's got potential, but there's definitely room for improvement.
Also, let's be honest, the director has a bit of a reputation, lol. But even with all that, I still really enjoyed the series. The ending is sad, which probably turned a lot of people off, but I thought it made sense for the tone of the story. Not everything has to be wrapped up in a happy bow, right?
In the end, Sakristan may not be perfect, but it's daring, thought-provoking, and full of heart. I loved the concept, and I respect what it tried to do.
