'Theerppu' is certainly NOT everyone's cup of tea.
On the technical side it is a well-shot, well-packaged unconventional revenge drama with an even more unconventional closure.
Coming to the writing, veteran Murali Gopy is going places with his ability to bring the slightest detail in place and deliver some strong political points only a smooth and flawless eye can even spot. I'm a huge fan of "Kammara Sambhavam" and Mollywood's topgrosser "Lucifer", both written by Murali but phenomenally different in genes and genre. This one is yet another mastercraft from the writer.
Filmmaker Rathish Ambat gets things right once again with the help of an experienced crew.

Tells a biased story about cunning Brahmin betraying innocent Muslim. Look at the first sentence I've written. I can clearly say many gave less rating because of that plot. Everyone becomes separated when it comes to religion. I'm not going into much. Let me discuss about the film. Story was week. Making was great. Acting also was nice. Climax was okay. Too much unwanted scenes which makes audiences to get bored. Lagging, I was time forwarding most of the time. Flashback was too lengthy, which they could've finished within 15 minutes. Although that's it. Making wise I'm satisfied. Highly not recommended but check out if you wish.
Imagine you are passionate about something. You need to put your best foot forward to make more people take part in your passion/cause. But then you go ahead and write a film that turns people off your cause. Your writing is so cringe inducing that the film does not even survive in the movie halls. Despite the huge star cast. The dialogs were unbearable. Every single character was a caricature. It makes me ill to even write this review. I cannot believe so many talented actors where wasted in a piece of crap like this. And those sets! What were they thinking? Who agreed to produce this project? Murali Gopy is like a traitor to the cause or passion or propaganda he was trying to peddle through this movie. I am not sure why he even bothered. He is like a bad marketing manager trying to sell his product. I cannot think of a worse analogy. This film is that bad. It is a torture. I fell asleep.
So I happened to watch this film in theatres and was very hyped for it for multiple reasons. But I was surely dissapointed by the final product which just turned out to be an average flick. So this film has multiple layers but none of them are able to blend properly while some feel forced. The screenplay by Murali Gopy is average at best and nothing else. First half is engaging and you won't feel much lag mainly due to some great performances. Second Half starts with a lagging monologue from Prithviraj but later the film gains pace after sometime. Talking about film's performances, Siddique, Saiju Kurup and Srikant Murali are the standout performers. Prithviraj is great especially in the emotional sequences but some places I felt his dialogue delivery was not convincing. Indrajith was OK in this movie and had nothing much to do. Vijay Babu was just being Vijay Babu. He showcased a good performance in first half but in the second half it felt like artificial acting. Hannah Reji Koshy and Isha Talwar have nothing to do in the movie. The film faults mainly at writing department. I liked the backstory and the emotional depth could be felt but the present timeline could have been much better. The characters were not written and explored properly except Siddique's, Saiju Kurup's and Prithviraj's characters. The film's best momment is it's climax and that's it. The Music by Murali Gopy is forgettable and the Title track is just bad and boring. Cinematography and production values are rich. The direction by Rathish Ambat can be complimented but still the writing let's all of it down. The movie can be seen for it's performances, first half, emotional depth, Climax and the visuals. Its watchable, at least.
Not a fun film, the film tries portray a certain high class life, and pettiness that some of them carry. The recently found out mollywood predator was a good choice for the character, cause the stories about him and the character in the film seemed so in sync. So the film has a true seed in character development. I don't know if fanboys/girls will attempt to put a philosophical lens to film, and will try to rescue the film by giving a cult status. If they do, I hope no one will fall for it.
