I'm finding a renewed interest in shorts. It's a unique talent to convey so much emotion in so little of time. This film was no exception.
The concerto is explained to be a conversation between the instruments, and this film is a conversation between a grandson and his grandfather. It's a quick, "Am I supposed to be here?" discussion, with both sides explaining where they are and how they got there.
I wasn't a fan of the camera shots in this, as the conversation is between the two men, not the viewer and one of them. By focusing directly on their faces, and having them look directly at the camera, it loses that piece of the conversation.
The music is lovely, and I'll be looking up more from Kris Bowers. Thanks to both for taking a bit of your time to tell your stories. We need to continue hearing them.

Tremendous metaphor. The fruits of grandpa's labor are clearly visible in his grandson. Extremely wholesome short.

I went into this not knowing what to expect and it was such a pleasant surprise! Even if it doesn't win the Oscar for Best Documentary Short I think the scoring of this documentary was beautiful enough to deserve its own nomination and it was impressively emotionally moving. Ava DuVernay you're on thin ice but damn does she know how to produce a documentary.
A short film packed with beauty and filled with gratitude for those on whose shoulders we stand.
Curtinho, 13 minutes alone, talks about Kris Bowers, a black musician who gained visibility for composing the soundtrack of the controversial and delicate "Green Book", in fact it is about his grandfather, the principle, a 91-year-old young man, wow, a delicious to taste, exciting, short and efficient...
