    Not a great start

Well, that was pretty bland, boring, and banal. Love the Anthony character but didn't feel invested in his storyline this episode although the actor is remarkably agile in later episodes. Of course, the bright spot in this season is Jonathan Bailey, who is a sexy gay dude who plays a straight man very well. I love to watch him work (Crashing was excellent) and he is totally an asset to this cast. Glad to see that as the series progresses, his work continued to get even better. The Whistledown storyline was meh.

Not as good as season one.

After watching episode one of the first season, I binged watched the rest. After watching the first episode of season 2 I just felt a bit flat. The old characters seemed a bit hammy and the new characters were badly miscast. Simone Ashley especially. She didn't have the spark needed for the part.... If she's the main love interest in this season, viewers will be turning off in droves.

    Loving it so far

For goodness sake vintageek this is NOT Victorian era, what are you like?! It's at least 20 years before Victoria got to the throne. Sorry you don't like the non-scary gentle (genteel even) feminism in this. You can't please all the people all the time. I'm sure there are plenty of other TV shows in which Black people, and female main characters do not appear.

I'm loving the characters in this. The queen with her facial expressions, and Lady Danbury in particular, are favourites of mine.

It's just a tad boring so far.....

I am struggling to see this season (2) through and I've only watched 3 episodes. All episodes lack energy and excitement and it's just a bit blah blah. Eloise is wonderful but she can't hold the whole season together on her own. Anthony is a bit of a cad turned moron but and the other sons are more interesting characters. Kate is soooo 21st predicable and I struggle to believe that the sisters are sisters (maybe they are not but I haven't watched that far). Costumes and sets are gorgeous but even they aren't captivating me to continue as with season 1 thoroughly enthralled . I'll probably watch the whole series but may do some fast forward. Such a shame.

    Books are always better

I loved the book.... But the show has lost the depth and nuance the book had. Kate in the book is witty, funny, clever, and you love her. That hasn't translated to the screen. They've even changed her last name and age, just why??! I understand sometimes they make changes to make things more dramatic, but that isn't the case here. They've lost most of the word play that created the chemistry between the characters. It's very disappointing.

I would recommend that anyone who hasn't read the book yet, please do! The author makes the characters come to life and you will smile and laugh out loud reading it..... The show just can't compare.

    • Quotes

Queen Charlotte: I yearn for someone fresh, someone unexpected, to turn this season on its head. That is what we need. There is no room for indifference. Apathy is a blight the monarchy simply cannot endure.

Lady Agatha Danbury: Of course, Your Majesty. But remember, a young lady cannot be a diamond until you anoint her as such. So, if, for any reason, you do not find one among the candidates today...

Queen Charlotte: Do you think she will return? We have heard nary a peep from Lady Whistledown since last season ended. Perhaps the writer came to her senses. Perhaps she realized taking on her Queen was a bad idea and she will never publish again.

Lady Agatha Danbury: It is a convincing theory, ma'am.

Queen Charlotte: Or she simply left for the country as the rest of us did in the offseason, bored by the lack of any real gossip. You do know what that would make her, then? One of us.
