It turns out you could rent an aquarium cheap during the pandemic

Asylum trash, if you don't know Asylum makes bad movies on purpose. This movie is a prime example of this. It tried to be funny bad in a few scenes but failed. The script was written around the locations they could film at or made up on the spot. Cheaper the better, anything is acceptable. This movie doesn't do anything good making it a bore. Finding a hole in the plot is easy. Please make some effort.

So wrong ... it stays wrong

No pun intended - also do not try to make sense of it. Any of it that is. You may wonder how Vivica A Fox came to be in something like this - but she needs money too, right? Maybe too much? Though I doubt that - the CGI is bad here - on the other hand you may say it embraces its low budget and goes fully silly. If you can have that mindset you may enjoy this more than others did.

But then there is also the editing issue. One example is a scene where a character is jumping with a knife to attack one of the creatures ... just so we see her fall in a completely different position ... very weird, very akward ... very wrong? You decide ... by the way Aquarium may be the understatement of the year ...

reviewer haakonsen couldnt have said it better...

, just claim that this film is made due to the unfortunate pandemic that hit the aquarium industry in lockdown and financial ruin, which led to the unfortunate making of this mumbo jumbo horror thriller because they had it almost for free admission, cause the aquarium exists, and wouldve been rather expensive background to hire when under normal conditions. So most of all its an unfortunate product smashed into mums meat grinder and out comes stupid acting, senselessly stupid story, and special effects that would impress davinci inside his camera obscura some hundred years ago.

Do not watch is the message from the grumpy old man, and thank you paul for your good analyses.

rounds out the trilogy nicely - Aieeeeee! starfish! run!

This is the 3rd entry in the "zoombies" film trilogy, and the MCU should be rightfully embarrassed.

In each film, the zombie plague occurs, just to animals, however, still leaving humans as the prey. No, the human victims don't seem to come back as zoombies themselves, they get to stay dead.

One thing to bear in mind while watching these 3 films (because, why aren't you doing that?), is that they were made on a shoestring budget. In this one, for instance, i laughed when a couple of characters were stopped by zombified river otters, which were apparently too complicated to animate by the SFX crew, because it cuts to the characters having run away from the otters and saying something like "wow, could you believe that?". I didn't, because i saw none of it on screen. I did appreciate, in this time, that they probably got the aquarium to film in inexpensively because it was likely shot during the pandemic, so there weren't any people visiting at the time. I bet we see a few more movies like this where ingenious film makers took advantage of hiring shooting locales on the cheap.

Other than just taking it all in and appreciating the goofy wonderfulness of these movies (certainly more entertaining than "sharknado"), which gets a little nod in this film because - sharks, it's silly fun, and that's all it needs to be.

Going to the aquatic park will never be the same again...

Well, if you are familiar with the movies - the mockbusters - that the movie company The Asylum churn out, then you know what you are in for when you sit down to watch "Aquarium of the Dead".

And yeah, "Aquarium of the Dead" was exactly what you would expect from The Asylum, for better or worse. The storyline and the concept here was actually fun enough, but the movie was just not made great by the inferior special effects and CGI. And let's face it, for a movie such as "Aquarium of the Dead", then special effects are a must.

Sure, I was lured in to watching "Aquarium of the Dead" because of the title. And also because I saw that the movie had Vivica A. Fox on the cast list. And when I saw The Asylum on the intro screen, I must admit that my expectations to the movie went right out the window.

Yet, I opted to watch "Aquarium of the Dead" on the odd chance that this was actually one of those rare moments where The Asylum actually churn out something worthwhile watching. However, as it turned out, then "Aquarium of the Dead" wasn't really one such moment.

The movie just settled into a very monotonous pace and it never really got into gear. So the movie experience was rather prolonged and bland. And the terrible CGI effects weren't exactly doing much to sell the movie.

The acting in "Aquarium of the Dead" was pretty much what you would and could expect from a movie such as this, and from a movie made by The Asylum. It is cheesy and campy, sure, but not among the worst of acting performances I have seen.

I managed to sit through the entire ordeal, but I can in all honesty say that I am not going to watch "Aquarium of the Dead" a second time. Nor is it a movie that I would recommend you sit down to watch.

The storyline told in "Aquarium of the Dead" just felt like it was something that director Glenn Miller was making up as they filmed the movie. So I don't really know what writers Marc Gottlieb and Michael Varrati were thinking here when they wrote the script for "Aquarium of the Dead".

But hey, at least "Aquarium of the Dead" offered something that haven't been seen before. I mean reanimated dead starfish, dolphin, walrus, octopus and crocodile. And you might think that would make for a gloriously fun movie. Well, no, not so much actually.

My rating of the 2021 movie "Aquarium of the Dead" lands on a three out of ten stars.

Skylar: Why would a shark be in a tornado?

Daniel Hanley: You know... 'cause of the... Yeah, never mind. It's a boomer joke.
