Retired teacher Heinz Schmidt's wife is having surgery. Staging dangerous domestic incompetence, he gets himself 'invited' to join daughter Christine, who just divorced teacher Daniel against paternal advice, and her buddy 'Doro(thea)' on working holiday on the east Frisian (North Sea) island Nordeney, where third friend Marleen de Vries is renovating a B&B with interior decorator Nils. On the ferry, they meet handsome Johann Thies, who soon overcomes his aversion for Heinz having a crush on Christine. Heinz and his local friend Kalli make a formidable wise-guy nuisance of themselves all over the place. They join forces with sleazy local reporter Gisbert Meyer, who suggests Johan is a womanizer-swindler.

Christine and Alex have decided to spend a quiet holiday in the house of her parents in the island of Sylt.Suddenly Christine's aunt Inge appears in Sylt.What does happen ? Why is Inge traveling alone and coming to Sylt ? A little later Heinz, Christine's father and his wife Charlotte are also arriving a Sylt.

Old Heinz won't be left alone during the summer, so he exaggerates an ailment to make his daughter take him along to the North Sea were she goes help her youth friend prepare for the grand opening of her small hotel. Heinz meets and teams up with an old friend, but the pair of them keeps messing up the renovation. Furthermore, Heinz deeply mistrusts his daughter's suitor and won't leave it at spying on them.

Doris Goldstein-Wagner is now 49 years old: her husband works as dentist and their son Moritz has now left the house.Suddenly Doris notices that her husband Torsten will organize a big birthday party she gets very angry.So she calls her friends Anke and Katja and proposes them to spend a weekend at the Baltic Sea, she doesn't want to go to the party and she will not tell Torsten about her escape to the Baltic Sea.Finally she manages to convince Anke and Katja.The three women arrive at the seaside resort and Doris presents her idea, she has contracted a life coach for this weekend.Anke and Katja don't agree with this idea and are ready to leave, but Doris explains that her life is a real disaster (empty nest syndrome, a husband who works too much,etc) and finally the two friends accept to stay .

After her divorce Christine has come to Hamburg.Today she will meet her new boyfriend Richard, a married man,she arrives at Richard's home,they begin to feel well, kissing each other,but suddenly the doorbell rings.It's Richard's wife and Christine has to escape.Christine is then bad tempered and has forgotten her meeting with Doro, her best friend.On the morning she meets first Doro and Thomas (a gay friend who share the house with Doro) and says that she has an interview for a job in a fashion magazine.She gets quite nervous and in the elevator she begins to speak too much with a young man about men and fashion magazines.After some minutes of waiting the secretary asks her to enter in the office of the editor who is the same young man of the elevator and is quite confused.But Sven,the editor decides to give her a chance, she must prepare an article about her best female friend.

A researcher returns to her home island Sylt, Germany, in the context of a business trip and is confronted with her past love and her sister.
