    Okish!! I'm still in!!

For the above reviewer the second part is tomorrow, Friday not next week.

I felt it was a bit slow though I am still watching. I was not sure Carvel could act but the cops in these shows do not need much acting!

The choices of the actresses for the nurses were interesting. They could have gone Hollyeood but they all looked right! They were good choices!

As I said I'm still watching and will catch tomorrow's as soon as I can!!

    Who killed who?

I still don't know who killed whom after watching the show. I'd you know, please email me or respond. I was confused by the ending, as was my wife. BUT overall good mystery.

Shroud for a Nightingale - Part One

I first came across PD James Inspector Adam Dalgliesh in the ITV shows they broadcast in the 1980s and 90s. Roy Marsden was regarded as rather poetic in the title role.

The BBC revived the character with Martin Shaw in the part in the early 2000s and I thought Shaw was miscast.

Now it is the turn of Channel 5 with Bertie Carvel in the title role.

The action is det in 1975. A Mrs Thatcher is vying for the leadership of The Conservative Party. Nightingale House Hospital, trains young nurses and one nurse dies during a demonstration when a tube is pushed through her stomach.

The police are called in as a cabinet minister is booked to have an operation there soon.

Inspector Dalgliesh and DS Charles Masterson (Jeremy Irvine) discover that a corrosive substance was pumped into her with a bottle of disinfectant going missing.

With several nurses and a surgeon present. There are a lot of suspects, some of them have something to hide. Dalgliesh methodically goes through the suspects and figures out just who might be lying.

I think PD James was a traditional crime writer who went through the background of the characters. It shows here as a lot of time is spent with the police questioning suspects.

The production set in the mid 70s looked authentic enough, but a lot of it was cheap with plenty of interior shots. As with the Martin Shaw version, Dalgliesh is bland.

    Okay. Will watch more.

This story is from my favorite P. D. James book. So I am thinking of the book when I watched this program, and also comparing it to the original dramatization that starred Roy Marsden. This new version is okay, but it's like an abridged version of the story. They made some changes in this new version. Try to see the Marsden program, he has a great scene with the drunken woman.

    A great start.

Adam Dalgliesh is called in to investigate a peculiar death, when a student Nurse dies during a training exercise.

I haven't long read this book, completely u aware that Channel five was bringing us this series, and in particular, this great story.

This was so impressive, huge credit to Channel five and the production company, my expectations were fairly low, they really have delivered though.

It looks terrific, the clothes and sets were great, best of all was that amazing Jaguar E Type, and The Ford Capri.

Bertie Carvel, did a cracking job here. The acting was first rate. This reallly was a quality production.

I wasn't expecting it to be this good, 9/10.

At one point a tray containing a Series E £5 note is shown yet the programme is set in 1975. The correct £5 note for 1975 would have been a Series D, the Series E wasn't introduced until 1990.
