I can't say I was bothered that Niles and Daphne weren't in it - it's called 'Frasier' after all.
I thought this reboot opened well, and it's credit to the writers that they went straight in with the sort of big farce episode that the original did really really well.
Throw in the always brilliant Nicholas Lyndhurst and a sense of genuine heart and I have to say that I am on board with this show.
It's a familiar enough set-up, and yet it feels new. If only the 'Joey' spin-off had been so good.
This may not be the same show, but I am looking forward to seeing how this plays out. I love the twist of Frasier and Freddy's relationship compared to Frasier and Martin. I love the new characters too. David is a hoot. We will miss our old familiar characters. We are excited to watch more!
It has some nice callbacks and references to the first show, a couple of funny moments and focuses well on the emotion of the current situation the characters are going through. It even adds a couple of interesting new characters that I can't wait to explore more.
It also makes me wonder what other sitcom characters would be like 20 years later. It's fun to think about.
So I hope the producers forgive me for not rushing to watch the pilot of the reboot, due to my fear of seeing my favourite show destroyed by writers and actors who no doubt will fail to capture the magic of the original series.
I had completely forgotten about the reboot until today, when I saw the series pop up on my screen. With nothing else to watch, I decided to give the show a go; it is STILL Kelsey Grammer after all.
And to my dismay, the first half of the pilot felt really awkward. Live studio audience laughter hasn't really aged well, and the acting and dialogue felt corny.
However, I began to see the parallels with the original series. The campiness reminded me of my introduction to the original series. And the relationship between Frasier and Freddie immediately filled me with a sense of nostalgia due to their parallels with Martin and Frasier.
The story actually works. It's a story about a father and son, but it manages to feel fresh without feeling like a clone of the original series. And most importantly, the show manages to transition seamlessly from silly to heartfelt moments, and the last 10 minutes of the episode won me over.
No, this reboot does not look as good as the original. How could it, considering how high the original series set the bar? But if this series manages to even capture a fraction of the magic of the original series; which in my opinion, it did; then this reboot should absolutely be deserving of a watch.
But they did the impossible and managed to recapture the same feeling I've looked to relive through countless streamings of reruns over the years.
Kelsey Grammer's return couldn't have been timed better, with the deluge of junk content that has been spewing out at us, I genuinely forgot how to enjoy a sitcom all the way through an episode.
The way they memorialize John Mahoney made a genuinely touching moment; recognizing the significance of that relationship while not hinging the episode on it was skillfully and respectfully executed.
There's some growing pains to be found, but much as the first season of the original had its flaws, there is so much potential. The new actors are mostly great, and I like that the whole thing has a familiar dynamic whole being something new.
As a diehard Frasier fan, I cannot emphasize too strongly the need to blow this show up with watches and reviews. We've waited this long for something good to come along. Don't you dare ruin this for me.

- TriviaEve has a son named John. This is another nod to the late John Mahoney, who played Fraser's father in the original series.
- GoofsIn the airport scene at the beginning, when the man returns Frasier's wallet, the scene outside the window shows a very old stock picture of an Alitalia MD-11. Alitalia went bankrupt in 2021. They last used a MD-11 in 2003.
- Quotes
Alan Cornwall: And how are things between you two? I remember how tense it was when he dropped out of Harvard.
Dr. Frasier Crane: All these years later, I still don't get it, but he's forging his own path, and I support that.
Alan Cornwall: And I believe you. Oh, look, now we're both liars.
