I watched the first episode of this quite simply because Carla Gugino was in it. I like her work generally and figured it would be something like say "Jett".
It wasn't. It's hard to completely describe this series without giving spoilers, so let me say it's like an anthology that is never the less interconnected. The connection to episode one may not come until episode four, etc., and this is part of the genius of the writing. The series is a little bit like Pulp Fiction, in the sense that it is a series of connected vignettes.
And speaking of the writing, I was certainly impressed. Actually no was first notch, direction was outstanding, principal photography was beautiful, and the editing was done very well in the telling of a most nonlinear story.
And for people who like eye candy (male and female), there is a large supply of it as the series tells a very sexy story. If you like beautiful female buts, you'll be in heaven. If you are prude about such things, this series is NOT for you.
There are no ugly characters in this entire movie, and everyone is pretty much smoking hot in their own quirky way.
All the sexiness aside, the writing is rather philosophical and there's some wonderful little gems of human relationship sprinkled all through the series. Usually when writers and directors go down the sexy road of strategy, storytelling suffers, but not here. This was a interesting story with a satisfying ending.
I did not expect to like this series as much as I did, but it became pretty addictive from the first episode. I also like that the episodes are only a half hour long, which makes it easy to start and stop the series in between your life schedule.
And oh yes, Carla Gugino just shines in it and just about every way.
If they make a season two, I will absolutely bite.

Wow!!!! This is totally different than Jett (which Cinemax couldn't sell right but is on HBO Max) with some of the same actors like a parallel universe Jett. Carla Gugino is of course senselesly beautiful (when isn't she?) tOTally fierce in this story that has comedy, music, sex, violence and like something more esoteric? Amelia Eve (with Carla in Bly Manor) and Ana De La Reguera are the funny parts and the criminal gang is the scary part. And they do that well. I won't spoil how slick Negan is in this but also be prepared for the most intriguing relationship between two women on television. Fire! All the women are standouts. Gaite Jensen (Tatiana from Peaky Blinders) is heartbreaking!!! Peacock is really showing stepping up their game making something this fresh.
Fausto Malon (Gentry White), Sierra Loba (Nora Arnezeder), and Clover Braun (Margot Bingham) are on the run after a diamond heist. They seek a temporary hideout at a seaside estate. They take Alba Fontana (Carla Gugino) and Batista 'Batty' Ferreira (Gaite Jansen) hostage. The women's relationship is secretive and they are hosting a dinner for director Max Hammond (Philip Winchester) and his trophy girlfriend Maru (Amelia Eve).
This starts as a crime drama spiced with a bit of tropical Spanish flavor. It's a little quirky, a lot of sexy, and a bit mysterious. Then it turns into an S&M drama. It's not the usual cartoon leather-bound costume play. It's more emotional and powerful. It's eight episodes. Each episode is only thirty minutes. It's a little odd to have a drama shorten to that length. A few things are a bit off-kilter in this show. All in all, this is a fascinating short binge. The story doesn't seem to have much room to go for a second season unless Jeffrey Dean Morgan leads the Walking Dead gang to look for the diamonds. I'm assuming that this is a limited series.

How this series has a lower score than Jett is beyond me. This show is wildly unpredictable and exciting. My mind works like an automatic puzzle solving machine when I watch a show/film and usually predict the end very quickly, but with this show...? Ha. Not on your life.
I have found myself thinking back to this incredible show numerous times since watching and I am left wishing that there would be a sequel as I rather resent that the ride is over. I just want to see what happens to a few, certain characters as they really ended up being quite endearing.
I hope that Carla and Sebastion make more shows like this as they do it sooooo well. They understand love.

Not a crime drama in any conventional sense this is a continuation of JETT and that show's style palette of brash colors influenced by film noir and classic women's pictures of the 1940's. Gutierrez knows his way around complicated femme fatales and plays with time, using the jewelry heist gone wrong (itself a noir staple) to get down to the real business he's after: the days and months leading up to the present and the psychological and philosophical quests of the various female characters, especially Batty (Gaite Jansen from Peaky Blinders, astounding) and the director's perpetual muse Gugino (perhaps better than ever).
This is an extremely confident 4 hour movie split into bite sized chunks for the binge generation.
Highly recommended.
