Director Emily Atef told French newspaper Le Parisien in May 2022 that she left a message to Gaspard Ulliel the day he died to tell him that there were great reactions to his character. Atef said that Ulliel was doubting himself, his role and the film, and she wanted to reassure him. Atef said he heard the message and tried to video call her, but he ended up not doing that.
This is the penultimate movie that Gaspard Ulliel filmed before his death. After completing this film in June 2021 (which was filmed at the same time as his role in La vengeance au triple galop (2021)), Ulliel started shooting the American miniseries Moon Knight (2022), and in December 2021 he started shooting the French miniseries Of Money and Blood (2023). In December 2021, he also completed the film Coma (2022), which is technically his last film where he voiced a doll, but it was the first film to be released after his death when it premiered at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2022. Ulliel was on a break from shooting "Tikkoun" and on vacation at a ski resort in France with his ex-girlfriend and last partner, Gaelle Pietri, and their six-year-old son when he suffered a skiing accident and died on January 19, 2022, before he could finish "Tikkoun". After his death, "More Than Ever" was incorrectly heavily promoted as Ulliel's "last film", "last role", and "the last film he shot" because his work in "Coma" was kept a secret until the film was selected for the Berlin Film Festival in February 2022. "More Than Ever" was actually Ulliel's last live-action film and his penultimate film overall. The people involved in this film never corrected the wrong information that it was the last role/last film that Ulliel shot, which was used as a marketing ploy since the day he died.
Director Emily Atef told French newspaper Le Parisien in May 2022 that three years before the film was made, Gaspard Ulliel came to see her with notes such as the first name of his character and that he gave her lots of suggestions. Atef also said that Ulliel remained faithful to the project despite many delays and problems in finding financing.
The title was originally "Mister".
