    Pilot

The pilot of La Brea mentions Lost. In short that is the premise with a little dash of Land of the Lost.

Eve Harris is taking her teenage kids to school. She and her son with some other people fall down an enormous sinkhole in the vicinity of La Brea Tar Pits.

They find themselves seemingly back because of prehistoric wolves. They need to figure out where they are and look to survive.

Back in Los Angeles, some prehistoric birds have emerged. Gavin Harris, Eve's estranged husband and their daughter Izzy try to find out what happened.

The authorities seem to be tight lipped as they send a probe down. However Gavin seem to have strange visions and believe that his wife and son are alive.

Gavin is the vital link to both stories. He already has aroused interest from the two dimensional government agents.

The first episode worked hard with the set up. The characters were very much cookie cutter style. I'm not sure the high concept will totally fly.

    Could do better

The series premier feels rushed like they're trying to fill a seasons worth of trust and team building in just the pilot episode. It would be more realistic to see people freaking out more rather than everyone somehow turning into survivalist experts. The CGI is also a bit of a let down, the destruction caused by the sinkhole is just so out of place when you see the people running away. Frankly a lot of what I see is just cheesy and unoriginal.

    Terrible acting

Interesting concept but poorly executed. Aside from that, it's hard to ignore the absolutely terrible acting. I'd pass and pick something better to watch.

If plot holes was a drinking game you would be drunk by the end of episode 1

Nothing makes sense. What worked or was stated in one moment does not hold true the next. Linear time travel makes this worse. Since they can go back and tell themselves thing which make them remember in the present but only sometimes. Plots get forgotten and they add more and more to make up for it. I feel like Sheldon from the big bang theory. I committed to see this to the end. One episode had a giant snake that you could see from above the water but the people in the water could not see it. They also tested the depth of the water for a few inches and deemed it safe to cross. They trusted people with no reason only to get burned time and time again. Villains came from austin powers reject pile. They could send things to the present by burying them in 10,000 BC. Why not bury a note to not go to the sink hole location in 2021 problem solved.

    • Trivia
The actress portraying Izzy, Zyra Gorecki, does in fact have a prosthetic lower leg. It is not CGI.
    • Goofs
When Gavin asks the scientist to carbon date his wife's wedding ring, they're forgetting that you can only carbon date something that was once alive. Carbon dating works off of measuring the amount of carbon 14, a radioactive element present in all living material, or material that was once alive. It does not work on inorganic items.
    • Quotes

Scott Israni: I know this sounds crazy. But what if we're in a national park?

Riley Velez: We fell into a sinkhole and you think we're in a national park? How high are you?

Scott Israni: No more than usual.
