Peter Capaldi makes for a very creepy sinister character indeed, as does the boy with no emotions.
I loved the way this show told it's story, it never felt slow or rushed. And I didn't really know exactly where it was going until the very end. All the cast were excellent.
There seems to be too many shows out there today that are predictable or treat their audience like idiots, thankfully The Devil's Hour is neither. The show asks you to follow what is happening and leaves you to figure it out as it progresses. At times it had the feel of supernatural dread to it, at other times a clever whodunnit.

Some reviewers on here wouldn't know a good series if it slapped them on the face! This is a quality thriller all the way through that keeps you guessing and wraps it up with a decent ending. People say you have to pay close attention, surely if you are putting on a series or a film while doing the hoover or got your head stuck on Social Media on your phone then it's not worth watching, is complete trash and requires the attention span of a 3 year old.
Of course you need to pay attention to the detail and concentrate on it to be able to enjoy it and not get lost in the story this is telling. Pay attention as it actually requires some concentration on your part! As long as you do that, and stop looking at your phone at the same time for 5 seconds you might actually enjoy a good series for a change. Not going to give it away but it draws you in and doesn't let go till the very end. Brilliant!

This show. This. SHOW! It was everything I want in a thriller/suspense/drama! It had that looping property, this reliving and rechanging things all over again thing that I seriously love, love, LOVE! I was definitely team toss that demon child Isaac outside at first. He was creepy, he was weird, must be evil. As the show went on I realized I was the jerk just like everyone else around him. He couldn't help who he was, but he also DID learn and grow. In his own way. When Dhillon made him smile, my heart stopped. Every moment of this show had me on EDGE. I couldn't look away for fear of missing something. And finally, getting to hear Peter Capaldi's story at the end? Just as good! My only complaint is that I wish it was LONGER. But so many great scenes. (The overlay of people/events in that house?? Come on soooo good!) Seriously this one kept me watching until the very end and continued to grip me even once it was done. I've added no spoilers so you can simply enjoy it but MAN was it great! Also, Mike sucks. -_- Peter Capaldi is just as wonderful as he was in Doctor Who. But the lead actress? Amazing! I loved her strength, her love for Isaac, and her care for other people as well as her resolve. She did amazing!

WOW just finished this and can't stop thinking about it. It's a LONG time since a series has had this effect on me. A fantastic story and everything ties up in the end (as much as fiction can). Acting is exceptional, especially from Peter C and the child who plays Isaac. Be aware that the first few episodes won't make much sense, they keep moving time frames, certain characters come and go, situations change drastically and so on. Another reviewer has suggested to watch intently and not to scroll lazily at your phone. I concur, you really have to watch and take notice so as not to get confused and also to enjoy the wrap up in the last episode when it all falls sadly into place. I really loathed one character and can't say who without spoiling it but I'm sure you will know who I mean when you watch. I feel this series deserves a second viewing which I plan to do. Congratulations to all involved and especially to the writer/s for thinking outside the box.

"The Devil's Hour" is a binge-worthy Amazon Prime streaming series that is almost like an exercise in thought: what if the 12th Doctor Who, played by Peter Capaldi as well, did not have the moral not to kill? What if he did not have the same capabilities, but the same motive to stop chaos?
The limiting factors produce a darker tone as well as a doctor who is not a doctor, but a fixer who often gets it wrong, because he cannot see as far into the future as Doctor Who can.
But at any rate, while Peter Capaldi is surely a main attraction to the show, he is not the starring character or the one whose journey we follow.
That credit goes to an almost single mother named Lucy Chambers, whose son and mother has the same disconcerting issues of being able to see what's not there. And Lucy Chambers, the most socially functional member of the family, is starting to struggle with the same psychiatric issues (or could they be abilities?) herself.
And once she comes to terms with what she can do, or not, we see her struggle along her own motivations to fix things, namely her son, who can be the most gifted and the most impaired of them all.
Overall a beguiling series with a bit of muffled impact for me at the end, with some curveballs throughout that strike me as somewhat improbable as too many tragedies of similar nature were set to occur. It's difficult for high concept thrillers to totally land, so I can make allowances there for what still is a thought provoking series. Commendable acting from the child actor who plays Isaac.

I'll keep this review brief!
I've just finished binging this series and i can honestly say i was pleasantly surprised! It's a perfect mix of eerie and intriguing.
Directing and acting is top notch and the story is very engaging and intricate right from episode 1. There's plenty of unexpected twists and turns as the story develops but you must pay attention!
There are small details in each episode that are very relevant so bear that in mind before starting this series.
9/10 for me. One of the better tv shows released this year. Definitely worth a watch if you like a good psychological thriller!

I was expecting a halfway decent horror series, with maybe some psychological drama thrown in, but what I got instead was a near perfect blend of crime drama, horror, thriller, and science-fiction. To have the guts to try and blend all of these genres together and end up not giving too much time or too little of one or another was impressive. Seamlessly blended.
The story was completely and absorbing As a horror/crime series aficionado I've seen just about all of the best movies and series so it takes a lot to impress and surprise me, and let me just say I was impressed and surprised.
(10/10) for the child actor that played the Isaac. He was perfect.

This is not your put it on and do some cleaning around the house series. If you're not paying attention, well, you will be lost. I was meandering a bit and I actually did pay attention - I rewound a bit here and there.
I watched specifically because of Peter Capaldi - Who can resist a retired Doctor Who??
Actor Benjamin Chivers, who plays Issac, the young son, is nothing short of incredible. There's one scene where I found myself with my hand over my mouth and I had stopped breathing. This child was brilliant in his delivery.
This is NOT a series I would usually watch. It seems to be a concept that I have seen before, but can't name the program. I don't think this one was particularly well done, but it is very entertaining --- especially for the week before Halloween.
Enjoy! But only if you pay close attention.

You are going to have to watch the first five episodes - which I each rate with a decent 7/10 - to be able to watch the real gem: i.e. The sixth episode. That sixth episode is just so extremely awesome, that it alone deserves a 10/10.
It is the first time that I have ever watched such an "assymmetric" show. The difference between episodes 1-5 and 6 is just huge! And after seeing episode 6, you will also appreciate more all preceding episodes.
Averaging the different scores (5 episodes of 7 stars and 1 episode of 10 stars) will give this show a score of 7.5/10. Rounding this, gives an IMDb rating of 8 stars.
But please do understand that the real gem is the last episode. And you will have to watch all the episodes before it to really understand what is happening in episode 6.

Which is high for me. I should of gave it an 8 considering what's been being released lately! Finally the UK may be getting back to their roots of making some of the best crime/thriller shows! This one is well done, all of the acting is good etc. I didn't love it tho. Like I'm not sitting here thinking about parts today or any one character( that usually happens tho rarely when I love something) but never the less it was good! Kind of similar to Shinning girls but better. I really liked Alex Ferns and I like Peter Capaldi in most everything he does. I just wished we had learned more abut the boy and the ending wasn't the greatest but it was a good series to spend the evening on and a good creepy Halloween watch as well!

Come on now, most of us movie watchers have seen just about everything. Its so lovely to have a thriller that keeps you guessing. That doesn't get lost in what message or idea they are sharing.
I did not like Capaldi as the doctor. He was angry all the time. With that being said I do try not to judge based on someone's last gig. So happy I did that as this was fabulous and Capaldi was brilliant in it. I only have about 30 min to go and I am done and wow, I binged it not meaning to but I couldn't shut it off lol. Wonderful cast and writing, scenery was stunning.
Of course I will not put in spoilers but this just made my Friday night happy. It was spooky, had a great plot that didn't snooze nor confuse. You only need to keep your mind open and watch carefully. Getting up to many times for laundry etc and you will miss things meant to be seen. Hats off to you all for a beautifully well done show.
I only took away a star because I wouldn't re-watch it. Not that it isn't re-watch worthy but I tend to only re-watch happy happy movies. So please do not let the missing star deter from any part of the show. It was a ten for sure.
One last thing, in the doctor Peter Capaldi looked so tired (and angry) but here he looks so much younger, more alive. No clue why but take a bow Mr Capaldi, well done :)

Its rare to find content that is so engaging. Perhaps the worst flaw in such morality plays or think pieces is once you know the gist or gimmick behind the show it surely must greatly diminish rewatchability.
Still that first trip through is a doozy. Capaldi is in what i see as his element or perhaps type casting if you will with tension drama and of course ethical conundrums.
Often times i find i have become a very critical minded viewer. Simple things like casting a child who couldn't possibly be biological for example is enough to put me off a show.
It can often be very little things that are deal breakers or perhaps when the production choices are so poorly executed they seem beyond careless and into insulting.
The theme of the show pays off again and again as it evolves and will definitely keep you guessing although it isn't too terribly cagey about trying to guess the ending either.
It retains a strong level of mass appeal or accessibility to its mystery and it really connects a lot of themes with its old world religious devils hour title to modern ideas playing out that are really symbiotic rather than either or.
These days i find i prefer fairly intelligent content mixed with the occasional entirely vapid puff entertainment.
I can't think of many moments in the entire series that i took issue with at all.

The Devil's Hour is initially very frustrating to watch implementing so many cheap horror film party tricks loud bangs and flash backs that I was close to ditching the show. No really inspiring performances but always a hint of something better kept me hooked until finally what seems initially like just a cheap horror flick becomes worth the wait as the SciFi part of the script reveals itself very late in the game and the real twists and turns of the tale weave themselves into the story.
Here's to hoping that the series will continue and explore and expand on this theme so don't give up if the first half seems just like a typical slasher movie as there is a lot more behind the tale.

Finally another Amazon highlight that forces you to binge the miniseries! The Devils Hour shows how important a selected ensemble is. Not only Jessica Raine and Oscar winner Peter Capaldi shine in the nerve-wracking 6 episodes. Every role, no matter how small, is extraordinarily well cast.
No spoilers: if you liked the movie The Butterfly Effect, you will love this series!
A series with many philosophical questions: where do we come from, where are we going and do we really have free will?
Certainly, the speed at which the story is told is not for everyone, as you have to stay focused on the series. But you are rewarded with an in-depth story.

The last episode is one of the best finales to a mini series I have ever seen. It's commonplace for writers to flake out these days and use the old 'interpret it yourself' ending as a guise for not knowing how to end their story properly - that's certainly not the case here.
I'll keep this review short and sweet. At the start I wasn't sure where this was all going and didn't quite have the patience to carry on. I left it for a week or so and came back and was certainly glad I did. Things really start to escalate mid-series. If you're reading this after watching the first episode, I'd say carry on. The finale blew me away on many levels. Enjoy.

I had just finished binge watching another series and was looking for something new to keep my attention. After watching episode one I was hooked. The show keeps you thinking and has a very compelling storyline. Very good psychological thriller that is a little more down to earth than M Night Shaymalan's, The Servant. Good cast especially with Jessica Raine in the lead role. I watched all eight episodes in two nights, which left me curious as to when season two would be coming. Unfortunately there is no info on the internet of when that will be, but the show definitely has been renewed for a season two and three. With less than six hours of airtime in season one, it is absolutely worth checking out. You won't be disappointed.

When the first episode of the second season was available, I thought "I vaguely remember watching the first season, but I cannot remember what it was about. Oh well, must have not been very memorable". I decided to watch the second episode without rewatching the first one. I changed my mind after the first episode. My mind was screaming, begging me "Please remind me what the story is about!!!". I binge-watched season 1, then rewatch S02E01 and then binge-watched the second season. It was worth it.
The show gives Fringe/Counterpart/Dark vibe. It is not that demanding to grasp, but don't watch if you have attention span of a goldfish or IQ below 100.
Majority of reviews were written after the first season; bear in mind the S02E01 explains A LOT, especially matters considered by many as plot holes.

Stayed with it for 5 episodes holding on to a futile belief that the deliberately disjointed story line would be rewarding for the patient viewer in episode 6. There is a good story in there but it gets lost in the screen gimmicks and editing. Peter Capaldi was decent. The others weren't quite. Patel was so boring that he made his character superfluous. Jessica Raine's presence and subsequent events in a police interview room was a stretch of credibility. Then the final explanation of how it tied together was so lame, inexplicable and unbelievable that I was actually mad. A limp screenplay and goofy directing suggests a rating of 6 is generous.
Finally something GOOD on TV! Fascinating, mind-bending and clever plot (perfect for sci-fi nerds like me), excellent pacing and cinematography, great acting, and just a much-needed wild ride after slogging through countless drivel (couldn't finish Inside Man for that reason). Thank you and pleeeaaasee bring us more! I was sad it ended so quickly, but appreciate the beauty of brevity and not beating a dead horse like so many bloated series being made now. I'm hoping the network bigwigs take note that viewers are generally intelligent and require quality entertainment a little more often than what's being fed to us. On that note, bring back OA!!

The story had a really interesting premise, the mixture of sci-fi and british realism was intriguing. Capaldi really played his part well as did the main protagonist.
I found myself rooting for them both but as the episodes went on what I was really sticking around for was the pay off, the conclusion and more of Capaldi doing what he's seemingly capable of in this show.
I didn't get any of that, the episodes were pretty boring for the most part, but they were building up something interesting to just enough degree that I stuck with it until the end. However, when the end came I didn't expect it to be the end, I even searched the internet thinking there must be more episodes I've missed. But no, there were no episodes. There was no ending in fact, no conclusion as such, no real explanation or finale. I don't want to spoil it for people so I can't say too much, just that I was at first confused at the lack of content, then I was disappointed at the lack of an ending, but then almost immediately I just thought 'Meh'. I wasn't even really that bothered by there not being more at the end because I realised I'd been bored for most of the series anyway.
I wouldn't waste my time on this again, I won't be watching any season 2 and I certainly wouldn't recommend this series to anybody. If you're looking for thrillers, mystery, or captivating drama, don't look to this. Look to Korea, they have 'Penthouse' for drama, 'Vincenzo' for thriller, 'Woo Young Woo' for light heartedness, 'Mr Queen' for your little time lapse schtick, and a million other things that have everything this show tries to offer and much much more.

If you're looking for comparisons, this is kind of like themes/ideas from The Matrix, Interstellar, Sliding Doors, Inception, etc., so if you liked that type of film you'll probably enjoy this (I certainly did!).
It's an intriguing, and engaging series, well worth watching, if you like something 'out of the ordinary'. The acting is first rate, especially the boy who plays Isaac, he's amazing!!! Jessica Raine is always a pleasure to watch, of course. The story is interesting, you don't know at first what's going on, so it offers a few different options, you need to pay attention to catch the quick 'flashes' that make sense later. Hoping for Seasons 2 & 3 to be made, for sure!!
