Abbott Elementary is the latest in the line of mockumentary comedies in the vein of Modern Family or The Office.

This one is set in an inner city school in Philadelphia with disadvantaged kids and no funding. Ava Coleman the self absorbed school principal has invited a film crew.

Staff morale is low, staff turnover is high.

Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson) is the perky optimistic newbie teacher who thinks she can make a difference. Despite the older jaded cynical teachers such as Mrs Howard telling her not to raise her hopes too much.

The pilot very much follows the tropes of these sort of mockumentary shows. This one makes barbed and truthful observations about teachers and the kids they have to look after.
