    True oral history

Hearing about the struggle for equality from the mouths of the people who experienced it is much more revealing and moving than the common narrated sequence with the 'Ken Burns effect' applied.

What I find so smart about this production was that the story is about students being unmoved, and the visuals in the film are also rooted and stable, not sliding past or cross-fading into each other, not transitory, and it leaves me with a clear sense of Rightness and Truth. As do the voices themselves, which are rooted and belong to that place.

The connection with the wider struggle in the country at the time is especially interesting, given the realization that many local events like this were ignored on the national level.

It is a quick film and I feel like it could be longer because I want to get to know the "Voices" more. As interesting and important as the events are, it's really the people telling them that ultimately interested me the most.
