Off the Beaten Path

Set in the '90's, this was a nostalgic, frozen-in-time moment of that period with the VHS tapes, land lines and big earrings.... The characters were interesting and diverse with Cat Black, as the lead Natasha Hall, giving an outstanding, multi-layered performance. Attesting to her power, much of the movie was shot in two interior sets (4 with the cars) with Natasha alone on the screen. The film felt very intimate, so it was surprising to see the large cast list in the credits and realize there were so many characters. Unusual, quirky, imaginative...Indy films offer a great opportunity to go to levels that studio films don't often tread.

Quirky, Fun, Crime Thriller/Comedy

Natasha Hall is one of the most original films I've seen in years. Cat Black's performance, as Natasha Hall, is riveting. She's such a fun, quirky character that you can't help but root for her.

NH takes place in the 90's, which is entertaining on its own merit. The old tube TVs, dated cars and costuming is on point. The movie looks like it's shot on film, although I didn't fact check that. The cinematography is great in the sense that it fits the style and tone of the film perfectly.

For me, the story lagged a bit in the second act. For a period of time, I ceased to care what happened to Natasha, but then things picked up again. The foul language was excessive and quite frankly unnecessary. Having said that, the dialogue was well-written and engaging. If you like crime thrillers and are looking for something completely unique to watch, NH will not disappoint.

A quirky imaginative unusual dark comedy.

I ran across Natasha Hall on the streaming service Tubi and the poster got my attention so i thought what the heck and watched it. It is categorized as a crime comedy drama but I would call it a dark comedy which are my absolute favorite. At first I didn't realize the story takes place in the '90's. That was kinda cool. I'm not one to put spoilers in reviews but I will say Natasha has an alter-ego inside her head named Switchblade Sue who thinks like a bad ass and she's just too funny. If you like quirky, imaginative, unusual characters then I suggest you check out the movie Natasha Hall. I GIVE IT TWO THUMBS UP.

HIGHLY recommend

This film has everything. It's dark, it's comedic, the atmosphere and lighting is superb and on point, the lead is brooding and deep with a beautifully realistic humorous side, the writing is nothing short of evocative with a depth like nothing I've seen since the old school Quentin Tarantino movies, the setting is a true classic (and the best decade - I might be partial but the 90's are slowly but surely becoming my favorite setting for movies and tv - those corded phones though!!), AND - on top of everything else - there's an amazing mystery thriller you get to follow along with. I cannot possibly recommend this movie enough. Do yourself a favor and go watch this amazing piece of art!

Bold, Unpredictable...and Fun

Natasha Hall is a film that is completely original. It is a mystery/thriller, while at the same time it is also a very involving and personal character study. A private investigator tries to avoid the mob after she gets some very incriminating evidence. This movie is set in the early 1990s, which is a really cool choice. It was fun to see the older cars, VHS tapes, corded telephones etc. The filmmakers took some bold chances here with many moments and filmmaking techniques I did not anticipate, including fantastic dream/fantasy sequences, slow motion, changing aspect ratios, split screens, and some really well executed 360 degree long takes. The direction and cinematography were excellent. But I think the thing that impressed me the most in this movie was the acting by the female lead, Cat Black. She gave a truly amazing performance as the title character. This movie is well worth your time. Check it out!

Such a fun romp!

This was such a fun, fun, fun movie to watch!! Natasha Hall (played by Cat Black) is so enjoyable and entertaining. Ms. Black really carries the film. I'm not trying to take anything away from the other actors. To the contrary, I thought all of the acting was quite good. There were some very fun characters for sure. However, Ms. Black just really stood out to me. The story I felt was quite good and it moved along at a really nice pace. I didn't find myself drifting off. I think it was thanks to the various encounters and situations Natasha Hall would find herself ending up in. Also, solid camera work. I give high marks to the camera crew. I liked the look and way the movie was shot. This movie gets a thumbs up from me!!
