Sweetpea: Starz has ordered season 2 of the Ella Purnell killer series
Image
For two seasons, Fallout star Ella Purnell had the lead in a drama series called Sweetbitter for Starz. A couple of months ago, she returned to Starz in another show with “Sweet” in the title, this one called Sweetpea, which premiered as a Starz original in the United States and Canada in October. At the time, the show was being referred to as a six episode limited series, but now, Deadline has broken the news that Sky Studios and Starz has ordered season 2 of Sweetpea.

The short description of Sweetpea goes like this: “The girl everyone overlooks might just be able to get away with murder.” Here’s some more information: Rhiannon Lewis doesn’t make much of an impression – people walk past her in the street without a second glance. She’s continually overlooked for a promotion at work, the guy she likes won’t commit, and her dad is really,...

‘The Shamrock Spitfire’ Ending Explained & Movie Recap: How Did Brendan Finucane Die?
Image
Directed by Dominic and Ian Higgins, the 2024 war drama film, The Shamrock Spitfire tells the story of the renowned Raf fighter pilot named Brendan “Paddy” Finucane, who, at the age of 21, became one of the most famous pilots of World War II. While The Shamrock Spitfire managed to cover all the aspects of how he became a pilot, by turning his dream into a reality, I somehow couldn’t emotionally connect with it much. Also, the CGI used in the movie felt like Instagram filters, which, of course, didn’t help either. But anyway, let’s dive into the story of how Mr. Finucane became the most celebrated young fighter pilot in history.

Spoilers Ahead

Why did Brendan join the Raf?

When The Shamrock Spitfire starts, we meet the young Brendan Finucane, who was obsessed with the story of Mick Mannock, an Irish soldier in World War I, and his bravery in battle.

And inside?

If you’re looking to support films beyond the blockbusters, then amongst the treats in this huge 168-page issue:

The Shamrock Spitfire (2024)
The Shamrock Spitfire review – Irish flying ace takes stage in nostalgic wartime weepie
The Shamrock Spitfire (2024)
The story of 1940s fighter pilot Brendan Finucane, Aka ‘Spitfire Paddy’, is told with panache, even if it lays it on a bit thick

The unabashed wartime weepie is a lost art these days. So despite its occasional lack of subtlety, Dominic and Ian Higgins’s Raf biopic is a welcome throwback to matinee-style viewing, right down to sundered lovers canoodling in front of starlit canopies. It has an easy swing and self-assurance, thanks in no small part to a well-starched performance by Shane O’Regan as real-life pilot Brendan Finucane, Aka “Spitfire Paddy”.

One of the ranks of Irishmen, and Britons of Irish descent, who despite their homeland’s neutrality took up arms for Blighty during the second world war, Finucane still holds the record for being the Raf’s youngest ever wing commander, having been promoted to the position aged 21. Living up to his compatriots’ rep as the “most belligerent neutrals” around,...
