The game is essentially a remake of the first Castlevania title, though in the Western market localization it was made out to be a sequel of sorts, a third battle between Simon and Dracula after the first game and "Simon's Quest".
The first game in the Castlevania series that allows the protagonist to whip in multiple directions, an option which has the potential to make game play significantly easier than previous installments.
