The only thing this has in common with Yellowstone is the main character both own a ranch and it's set in modern day. This show reminds me more of another Amazon show Homecoming for its visual style and quirkiness. I liked that show quite a bit and so far the first two episodes of Outer Range haven't disappointed. It'll be interesting where they take the show from here, it's unpredictable and the pacing and story narrative have an intriguing style that makes you want to binge the show to find out what's going on. I'm writing this after watching the first two premiere episodes, having to wait for new episodes each Friday is gonna be tough!
What a rollercoaster! This show has been all over the place and I love it. Really love the direction it's going and if you are reading this you should really give it a chance. The 2nd episode followed up and doubles down on the sci-fi mystery and the old town country aspects the show had to offer.
OK, so the Wayne Tillerson wants 600 acres of the west pasture because of a boundary error in the 19th century and the Abbotts have had it in their control for over 100 years. Then a prospective lawyer tells Royal Abbott to just turn over the 600 acres to cut his losses! Why was there no discussion with Abbott about the State of Wyoming and the law as to Adverse Possession? It sure seems to me that the weight of Wyoming law is with the Abbotts!
What is going on, lol?!?!? Wooo boy, ok.
Showrunner/writer Brian Watkins is a complete unknown, and there is no source material to cheat off of. However, Plan B, the production company that is producing the series also produced OA, the Sci Fi thriller series that ran on Netflix and was a fantastic series. Hopes are high, the lead actors are all very, very strong. What I do know, for absolute sure... Yellowstone, yeah, this ain't that. Just because a show has a rancher doesn't mean it should be directly compared to Yellowstone, this show feels ABSOLUTELY different. The production, cinematography, music, writing, acting....name it, Outer Range has a completely different tone.
Episode 1 was very vague, episode 2, The Land, was a little more coherent and yet somehow not. We keep chucking things into the unknown, and not getting a lot back. It's all a little slow burn and very brooding, there was a decent carrot towards the end. Is Royal Abbot Roy Neary?!? I kid, but theories are going to be endless in a series like this. Either way the production and acting have been enough of a positive to keep interest, the scenery and especially music have been great.
I am still utterly confused, not necessarily in a bad way, and I'm completely looking forward to seeing where this goes. It looks like it's going to be a very twisted trip down a black rabbit hole....

- TriviaIn the diner, Maria's Spanish translates to "I'm going to have dinner with you. But I warn you that usually I don't go out with blondes like you. You're going to have to 'lay a lot of eggs' on it. Did you understand?"
- GoofsWhen they first show Wayne Tillerson in bed there is a ventilator operating on the stand, yet he is only wearing a nasal cannula that trickles pure oxygen into the nose. These do not operate together. He would have a tube down his throat and be unable to talk if he was actually on the ventilator.
