She Can't "Komi"-nicate

Like in the Amphibia review, i am sorry about that, but i like to do creative titles for my reviews, even if they hurt.

Ok, this anime were announced in early summer if i can recall with a small teaser trailer and i got stunned by the animation, but i couldn' wait so i readed the manga first and now that it finally aired i can say that this is a very good adaptation. The light, the shadow, the voices we reach to hear... everything fits with the scene and the ambiance they give. They also have a detailed animation for characters that easily change to the less detailed one for comic situations; which are the main point alongside the basic story.

There's nothing bad about this, i didn't gave it a 10 stars because we just have 1 episode at time of publishing this review, if they manage to do it well on the total amount of episodes we'll get then i'll give the deserved 10, but until then it will be 9 and won't go down from that.

Komi is here to make friends, stay with her in the anime to see if she manages to reach her goal and the many things that will happen. A must watch, that's for sure.

Cute and relatable

Everyone has challenges to overcome. No one is perfect - not even the most beautiful girl at school. That's one message of this excellent anime on the topic.

The other is that social anxiety is real problem for some people, and can be quite debilitating. Taijin kyofusho (social phobia) is not limited to just Japan, but perhaps it's more studied here.

So far I'm liking the anime, and perhaps making it humorous instead of being too serious about the subject is the right way to go.

The Art of Communicating

: Really, what is there to say about Komi Can't Communicate? This is probably up there as being one of the best anime adaptations this year with each episode really improving over each one.

The animation is simply beautiful and polished. The lighting and fluid movements are also top-notch. But I especially love the character designs of each character so much so, it would be relatively easy for each character to be identified with a silhouette.

But the main story is also really relatable: the social awkwardness and the desire to want to speak with other people but there are things that inhibit that such as shyness. But, really, you do want friends, and yet, how will you even hope to relay that?

The characters are what really give the show life. Tadano is described as "hopelessly average," which is true. When you have a whole school of students with different quirks and personalities, Tadano feels rather "vanilla." And yet, I feel that it works out just fine. Really, because of how much the students at the school treat Komi as a goddess or put her on a high pedestal, their flaws come from being unable to interpret Komi's true feelings in part because of their outrageous quirks. They are in love with the idea that Komi represents, and yet ironically, they are so woefully ignorant of what she is really like.

So despite that, Tadano is able to look past Komi's beauty to see someone that truly wanted friendship and he voluntarily assists her in her goal to get 100 friends. He does this again not because he is trying to score with her, but it is because he understands her. He also congratulates her whenever she would try to step out of her comfort zone.

For what little words she actually does speak, Komi is adorable with the show doing a great job at adapting her "bug eyes." The main humor comes from the classmates misunderstanding her behavior or actions by filling in the blanks when she actually had something else completely different in mind. Her goal of wanting 100 friends is just cute even though it seems relatively simplistic at first. But it shows how lonely and desperate she is with wanting to speak and only makes her relationship with Tadano all the more wholesome.

Then we have my personal favorite the based Osana Najimi. They are the most hilarious of the main cast of characters with their bombastic personality and trolling nature. Oftentimes, they do try to put Tadano and Komi into a situation to make them closer, but they are a good friend.

Supporting cast. As I said, they also have their own personalities and are about as entertaining as the main characters. There's Agari, a nerdy girl who gets nervous anytime she has to speak directly to others (and later decides to become Komi's pet due again to misunderstandings). There's one who believes herself to be in a rivalry with Komi, but Komi does not even know she exists. And, of course, we have a chuunibyou who is convinced that she knew Komi from a past life.

While I love a majority of the characters, the one I absolutely loathe is Yamai Ren. She is your typical yandere girl who is greatly obsessed with Komi, but it tends to go too far and is not funny at all. Really, that one scene where she discovered one of Komi's strands of hair is scarring. Worse, she even goes to drastic measures to be closer to Komi that I really wanted the outcome to be that Komi would befriend the entire class with her being tossed to the curb like the hot trash she is. At least from what I have heard the manga has her appear less.

The voice work and sound need no complex reason as to why they are good. Just really, the show is nearly perfect in its themes; relatability; animation, etc. Definitely a must-watch.

They made a anime about the same thing i have

Awesome anime, 10/10. Anime of the year, altough it is the only anime i have watched this year. Made me cry. I think everyone should watch it at least once. Maybe i am a little biased because i also cannot communicate. I've learned so much from it. One thing that made me confused was that the teacher did not know that she could not talk, when i went to school it was the first thing the teacher said to the class about me.

Komi-san is very reletable because i also am scared to communicate with others, which has made it impossible to find friends. I am also scared to text others because i don't know what to write most of the time.

Maybe you were right, Maybe I was wrong, But I've been silent for far too long.

It's been so long since I watched something of this level.

I read 2 volumes of its manga recently until I became aware its anime adaptation was about to release in October.

It was worth waiting for.

It has a funny way of story-telling and great art.

I have no doubt you'll enjoy watching it.

A Heartwarming Tale of Friendship and Growth

Komi Can't Communicate is an endearing anime series that revolves around the life of Shoko Komi, a high school student with severe social anxiety. While facing challenges in expressing herself, Komi embarks on a journey of self-discovery, forming deep connections with those around her. This anime successfully captures the essence of friendship and personal growth, although it falls short in certain aspects.

One of the standout qualities of Komi Can't Communicate is its lovable cast of characters. From the charming and relatable protagonist, Komi, to the diverse group of friends she encounters, each character brings their own unique quirks and personalities to the story. The interactions and dynamics between the characters are heartwarming, often leading to comedic and heartfelt moments that will leave watchers with a warm smile.

The central theme of overcoming social anxiety and the importance of communication is delicately woven into the narrative. Komi's struggles and her desire to connect with others resonate with watchers, as many can relate to the challenges of navigating social situations. The manga highlights the significance of empathy, understanding, and acceptance, delivering a positive and uplifting message that encourages readers to embrace their own vulnerabilities.

The animation in Komi Can't Communicate is visually appealing and complements the storytelling effectively. The clean and expressive character designs add depth to the characters, capturing their emotions and expressions in a captivating manner. Additionally, the use of visual gags and comedic timing enhances the humor and light-hearted moments, creating a delightful reading experience.

However, Komi Can't Communicate does have a tendency to rely heavily on repetitive gags and jokes, which can become predictable over time. While the humor initially adds charm to the story, it may lose some of its impact as the anime progresses. Additionally, the pacing can occasionally feel slow, with certain chapters focusing more on comedic situations rather than advancing the overall plot. This may result in a lack of narrative momentum at times.

Furthermore, the romantic subplot introduced in the anime could have been explored more deeply. While it adds an additional layer of complexity to the story, it remains somewhat underdeveloped, leaving watchers longing for more exploration and resolution. It would have been beneficial to see the romantic aspect given more attention and nuance to fully complement the overarching themes of the anime.

In conclusion, Komi Can't Communicate is a heartwarming anime that effectively tackles the challenges of social anxiety and the power of friendship. Its lovable characters, relatable themes, and visually appealing animation contribute to an enjoyable watching experience. Despite its occasional reliance on repetitive gags and a slow pacing, the anime's positive message and endearing moments make it worth the watch for fans of slice-of-life stories and character-driven narratives.

The Best Romantic Love story I have ever watched. It was simply amazing. The characters are very well written. It is very important to have a good heart and be kind to others is what I learnt. It has also broadened my scope of understanding social relationships. Again if you like innocent love that is true love it is a must watch.

Don't know why everybody hate it

Komi can't communicate is really a good show to be honest some people may say that they romanticised social anxiety which is not. The genre of this show is slice of life and romantic. If you see on TikTok some people may overhated the story and the plot. But it's a very good story how the process that Komi becoming more and more social to her friend.

Pretty Nice

You know, i went into this show thinking, Nah, this is going to be another cringe anime with jarring animation and an awful plot, but this ended up being to me, a masterpiece. While the overall show is great, I can not stop gushing about the first episode. As a person with social anxiety, It was an extreme breath of fresh air and perfectly encapsulated that awful feeling, coupled off with the powerful emotional scene when Komi and Tadano write on the chalk board. I recommend this show for its extremely memorable characters, awesome animation and the fact that its an overall breath of fresh air.

Cute but gets boring quickly

The first episode had me hooked and excited for series! It was such a heartwarming episode that hooks the viewer in. So I continued to watch the series. Episode one through five was amazing. But...After the fifth episode everything seemed very predictable and the series got stale very quickly, to the point where I would put it on for background noise while cleaning my room and so on. There were too many characters being introduced that It was hard to keep up with everyone. However, there were some really funny jokes and scenes that had me stop what I was doing so I can see what was going on, but there arent any specific scenes. I found myself skipping theorugh the series, After episode 11 I skipped through episodes to see which ones even LOOKED interesting. In total I watched about 14-15 episodes (out of order after episode 11) before just skipping to the end. In the end, its just an alright series.

Heart Warming

"Komi-san wa, Komyushou Desu" is a slice of life anime. The anime's OP and ED both are excellent (the level where you'd like to add their lofi versions to your playlist) and the background music is amazing (if you're a regular lofi listener, you'll probably recognize most of them). The story is a bit random and "far from reality", as most of the anime in the genre are, but the wholesome part is what makes the most of anime. If you miss your school days or just want a daily dose of wholesome content, you're gonna love watching Komi-san being awkward in public and trying to overcome her social anxiety.

✒Crazy Eyes and the Boy with the Flower in His Hair 🌼 When You're Beautiful You Don't Have to Say Much °VG° °7.5° 💯% 🔎

School. Public Speaking. Parties. Seating arrangements. Everyday stuff is agonizing for people with social anxiety. Komi lives in fear. The teacher might call on her. A stranger might try to strike up a convo. At school, she could be asked to participate. Simply buying a scarf is terrifying.

It's a little bit ironic that they're dealing with social anxiety and they're following somebody who is gorgeous. I guess their point is that anybody can have it. But they're also showing what a relatively easy time Komi has because of her looks - relatively. Are they doing that deliberately? I'd like to see a show about somebody ordinary. It may not necessarily be a good thing to be too rich, too famous or too beautiful. All they bring are lots of unwanted attention. It makes it too easy to avoid introspection, and it gets in the way of sincere relationships. Komi seems to have no concept of her appearance, fortunately.

Relationships. Komi can hardly picture something so interpersonally complex. That requires verbalization, and Komi hasn't used her rusty vocal cords in years. We'll see that even Komi's ancestor struggled with articulation. The gravestone is inscribed with an eternal "?" and a "!" for emphasis. Komi uses a notebook to communicate. Her classmates hardly seem to think twice about it. (Being pretty seems to help alot).

Komi has large, near Egyptian looking eyes, soft long bangs in a wave to the side, long dark silky hair, a micro mini plaid school uniform skirt and black tights. She's tall. Everyone notices her, but she wishes no one would. At the same time she wishes to be noticed in a setting where she can interact with others. Komi's a dandere type, to use anime lingo. She's also in a constant state of perturbated flux. Therefore, the animators gave Komi crazy eyes, exactly like one of my kitties. They go from wide open to double wide, to DUCK!-they're-gonna-blow!

Tadano is warm and insightful. He would probably enjoy being noticed more, but he's largely overlooked. Everyone is looking his way, now, though. That's because Komi is sitting next to him. Tadano is one of those rare weirdos who isn't thinking about himself and what pleases /him/ every moment of the day. He observes Komi and realizes she struggles to communicate. He seems to intuitively understand her. Komi starts to unconsciously look at him like a cat looks at the heating vent. He's comfortable. Come to think of it, Tadano has crazy eyes, too. The animation is not my favorite, but it'll do. I like the flower on his head. The ahoge is his cowlick, but they made it look like a flower. There's something whimsical about it.

I don't remember how I started on this one, but it isn't the type of story I would have specifically opted for, per se. What's great about the roulette method of 📺 watching is how it broadens one's horizons and often pays off better than gold prospecting. Beautiful nuggets are found with regularity, and that is the case here. KCC won over this near-reluctant viewer. Not a whole lot happens. It's the characters and the writing that speak to the audience. These people are fun to hang with.

Najima Is a fantastic character and the primary reason for the show's appeal. She's cool, she enjoys herself, and she's friends with everyone. "I just realized I'm quintuple booked. Gotta go!" She's the emulsion that makes everything run smoothly. A natural leader, she is a force for good. In contrast, the librarian is like a prison thug in ponytails when she says "please be quiet" 👿. It's funny. {Btw, while watching the show, it never occurred to me to question Najima's gender. She always seemed like a girl to me. Apparently, officially, Najima's gender is never explicitly delineated.}

Part of S1's fun is the mischievous Fukusuki Natsu. His idea of a good time is causing a commotion. He's about making people feel uncomfortable in a playful kind of way. In fact, he's probably the best character in S1. At one point he invites them to the festival. He has a horde following him. He takes over the maid cafe project. It was so popular the line for a table was over an hour wait. 'Turn those tables over!," he barks as he's selling pictures with maids and talking about a foot massage stand. Tadano cuts it off at that point. 1,000 String Lottery at the festival looks like fun, btw. Pull a rope from the jumble of them; each one's attached to a prize. See what ya get.

S1 flows into S2 seamlessly. The vibe is upbeat and cheerful. In S2, there's a couple of new students. One looks big and scary, but he's actually quite anxious and positively terrified of talking to people. Made fun of at his last school, he's been working out /hard/ and has made quite the physical transformation. He doesn't realize he's gone from forgettable to near overwhelming. Then they bring in Naruse, the narcissist.

The girls go to Universal Studios! They call it Utopia, but they go on the Spiderman ride, the Jaws ride, and get a snack in Harry Potter world. The last episode might be the best one. It's joyous. Najima, once again, shows she's a near mythical character and she levels up the lives of all who come in contact with her.

On one level, KCC is in a naive bubble where people are kind and understanding. That ain't the world we live in. But it /should/ be. Komi's behavior is "weird". Weird behavior is often due to pain. So, be kind. It is time for us to start lifting the burdens piled on others, rather than adding to them. Kindness does that. It heals. And it costs the giver nothing! Watching KCC can fuel that mission.

Charm

Despite its distinct charm, Komi Can't Communicate is an excellent rendition of the manga. The anime has excellent animation and faithfully translates text humor and chibi faces; nevertheless, most subtitles might not catch all that is on screen, which could be a problem for the translation. Even though the character designs are adorable, their unusual proportions make them appear strange when moving.

Not the gimmick, but the entire plot revolves around the adorable but distant waifu, which is the show's worst flaw. The story's primary focus is action adventure, so the romantic tension between the hero and heroine is not established. Similar to shounen anime, this show uses romantic tension to entice viewers to create doujins and ship characters.

Ep 1-2 are Good, Downhill After

I truly enjoyed Ep 1 and was really hopeful! I liked the relationship between Komi & Tadano. Komo's character was sweet and endearing for sure. As the series progressed, it was much of the same obsessive over-the-top affection that all characters have for Komi and you don't see Komi progressing at all with the same reactions. Every. Single. Interaction. I would have liked to see a more dynamic story and progression with the lead character. I could deal with Najimi even though she was a odd with characteristics that didn't make sense with the storyline at all. When we got to Yamai it was a little much!!!
