WW1 - 1917. When David Allister, a facially disfigured war hero, writes a biting condemnation of the war, he is placed in the care of Dr. Ethan Drury at Craiglockhart mental hospital until he agrees to publish a retraction.
Back in London, a marriage is arranged for David. Lucy confirms Arthur's death and lays the blame at David's feet. A humbled Dr. Drury visits. Martha retreats into séance.
