Januae is still in Lostrei as he recovers from the ritual the priests put him through. While figuring out how to get back to Qi he learns an interesting truth about the Gaians in relation to the Amber Papacy.
Januae finally ends up teleporting out of Lostrei but he finds he missed the mark a bit, ending up on the deck of a ship possibly heading into Qi's port. Or did he miss the mark by more than he thought?
The Jaekels have made Januae their prisoner and have taken him to the inhospitable Aras Island where they dwell. Though he considers himself lucky to be alive, he's not sure what plans these marauders have for him.
The Jaekels have imprisoned Januae and the chiurgeon and put them to work constructing animal attributes to graft onto them. The two find themselves at odds as to how to proceed with their next set of orders given to them by their captors.
In the middle of an unknown desert Januae encounters a giant machine which is a city in and of itself. He is in no way prepared for what awaits him there.
Januae has joined up with a group of explorers to investigate the object that had crashed in the Cold Desert. Of course the long journey is not without its troubles along the way.
