‘Another Self’ Season 2 Netflix Review: A Mixed Bag Of Emotions
Image
The bond between the three friends continues to be the core of Another Self. In the first season, we witnessed Ada, Leyla, and Sevgi embark on a spiritual journey where they untangled their past traumas with the help of renowned healer Zaman. The shift from living in a bustling city to a quaint seaside town helped the trio focus on their wellbeing. Many might not agree with the healing process, but it is the portrayal of female friendship in Another Self that feels authentic and worth a binge-watch. The elements remain the same in season two, but they tend to get a little repetitive at times.

Leyla, Sevgi, and Ada’s problems did not magically vanish after moving to Ayvalik, something that people wishfully dream of when they start their spiritual journey. Life continues to surprise them with new problems, but season two goes on to show that the characters...

‘Another Self’ Season 1 Recap: What Happened To Sevgi And Her Friends?
Image
Experiences from the past shape the course of the future, a philosophical awareness that has been a recurrent topic in literature and art since antiquity. Netflix’s Turkish drama series Another Self draws this awareness to a quite literal definition, probably influenced by Middle Eastern spiritual beliefs, as we find characters getting entangled in a cycle of misery in the present due to traumas their ancestors faced in the past. Call it a weird version of genetic memory or a mystical connection with one’s roots; the concept is not really something original, and the approach taken by the makers of Another Life to address it with a melodramatic angle kind of undercuts the significance of the character development as well. However, there is a deeper cultural and historical significance embedded within the narrative, which makes this exploration of the past to reshape the present a much more nuanced ordeal than one would expect.

Image
New seasons of “Bridgerton” and “The Night Agent” are coming to the world’s largest streamer in 2024, but what about “Stranger Things”?

Netflix takes its position as the leader of the streaming industry seriously. It frequently makes moves that no other streaming platform does, such as releasing viewership data for 99% of its shows, and this week it took another action few competing streaming services do: unveiling its entire TV, movie, and mobile game slate for the rest of 2024.

New seasons of “Bridgerton,” “Cobra Kai” and “Squid Game” will arrive on Netflix in 2024. Movie highlights include the new “Beverly Hills Cop” starring Eddie Murphy and Tyler Perry’s horror flick “Mea Culpa.” The schedule confirms there will be no new episodes of “Stranger Things” until at least 2025. Netflix Released Record-Breaking 1,024 Original TV Episodes in Q3 — More Than Five Times Any Other Service
Image
Netflix has taken peak TV to a new peak.

In a data point sure to fuel more quantity-versus-quality debate, Netflix broke its own record for number of original episodes released in a single quarter — with 1,026 in the third quarter of 2022, according to a tally by Wall Street firm MoffettNathanson.

That’s more than five times any other streaming rival: Amazon Prime Video and Hulu released 223 and 194 episodes, respectively, and Disney+ debuted 140 original episodes, per the report. HBO Max, now owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, released 114 episodes in the third quarter — significantly fewer episodes than usual and comprising the lightest slate for the service since Q2 2020, the second quarter after launch. Wbd has been paring back HBO Max’s content slate in recent months as it looks to cut costs.

All told, Netflix premiered 159 original and exclusive shows in Q3, topping its previous high-water mark of 143 in Q4 2021 (which totaled nearly...

‘Another Self’: A Turkish Drama About Facing One’s Past
Image
Photo: ‘Another Self’ ‘Another Self’ has the style and pace of a classic soap opera that has been fitted with modern trappings. It is a series that is ingrained with the past, and while the audience views the main actors as early middle-aged individuals, these characters are still haunted by trauma from their youth. Despite the exceptional cast of actors, who were all in fact believable in their roles, the series becomes too hung up on the predictable. The show begins with a blunt yet effective introduction to the characters' lives as we learn each of their own worst fears in the first episode. The dynamic between the three main characters is quickly established as the show portrays them as being fast friends who are deeply versed in the secrets of each other’s lives.
