ITV Heads For ‘The Summit’

UK network ITV has ordered a local version of Banijay’s adventure reality series The Summit and will launch. a local version in 2025. Shine TV, part of Banijay UK, will produce the show, in which 14 strangers from all walks of life attempt to clip the rugged Alps of New Zealand’s South Island. The winner gets a prize of £200,000. Another Banijay label, Endemol Shine Australia, created the original version for Nine Network. Ben Shepherd will host the British version, which comes after commissions in Europe and the U.S., where a CBS version launched in late September. The "Twilight" Saga is one of those film franchises that is so ungodly profitable and popular in the zeitgeist that even people who have never seen a single clip beyond a gif of Edward Cullen sparkling in the sunlight and declaring "This is the skin of a killer, Bella" at least know the general story beats. It's a love triangle between the vampiric Cullen (Robert Pattinson), a werewolf named Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), and the most average girl in the world, Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart). The entire "Twilight" phenomenon was stupid lightning in a stupid bottle, and I doubt author Stephenie Meyer could have ever predicted her relatively chaste, monster-loving Mormon stories had the power to completely change the landscape of teen girl cinema forever.

The 2024 Mama Awards are coming soon!

The K-pop awards ceremony will kick off in the United States for the first time in its history before taking place in Japan in November.

The album/song eligibility period runs from October 1 2023 through September 30, 2024. The albums, songs and artists are assessed based on a holistic evaluation of global music data and a panel of specialists.

This year, there’s also a new category: Best Choreography.

This year’s ceremony, presented by Visa, will kick off at the Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on November 21, and will be held at the Kyocera Dome Osaka in Japan over two days from November 22 to 23. The show will also be broadcast worldwide including global digital platforms.

Tickets go on sale Friday, October 22 at 4 p.m. via Ticketmaster.

Warner Bros.’ “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” conjured a dominating £7.3 million ($9.6 million) opening weekend in the U.K. and Ireland, easily claiming the top spot at the box office, according to numbers from Comscore.

Ahimsa Entertainment’s Tamil-language film “The Greatest Of All Time” (“Goat”), starring Vijay, debuted in second place with £768,842.

Sony’s “It Ends With Us” held strong in its fifth week, landing at number three with £668,902, pushing its total to £20.1 million. Disney’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” continued to perform well in its seventh frame, adding £661,592 for a £55.9 million cume.

There was a time in the early 2010s when Twilight was just about the biggest film franchise around.

It comprises five films – 2008’s Twilight, directed by Catherine Hardwicke, 2009’s New Moon, directed by Chris Weitz, 2010’s Eclipse, directed by David Slade, and the two part finale Breaking Dawn, directed by Bill Condon and released in 2011 and 2012. Their success was such that two parody films were also released in quick succession, the much maligned Vampire’s Suck and Breaking Wind.

The films followed Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan as she becomes romantically involved with vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, and werewolf Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner. Which all leads to a battle with vampire coven The Volturi.

The animated series based on Stephanie Meyer’s “Twilight” novel “Midnight Sun” has been given a straight-to-series order at Netflix, Variety has learned.

The project was first reported to be in early development back in April 2023 at studio Lionsgate Television. Michael Burns, vice chairman of Lionsgate, confirmed in March 2024 that it would be an animated series. Netflix is now developing the project.

“Midnight Sun” was originally released in 2020. It serves as a retelling of the first “Twilight” book from the perspective of Edward Cullen rather than Bella Swan.

Sinead Daly will serve as writer and executive producer on the series. Daly’s past credits include “Tell Me Lies” at Hulu, “The Walking Dead: World Beyond” at AMC, “Raised by Wolves” at Max, and “The Get Down” at Netflix.

Tubi, the free advertising-supported streaming service owned by Fox Corp., is looking to bring its success formula to the U.K., launching in the market on Tuesday, July 2.

The streamer, led by CEO Anjali Sud, the former head of Vimeo, now has about 80 million monthly active users, the executive told The Hollywood Reporter. In the U.S., its strategy has differed from other Fast platforms. For example, 90 percent of viewing on Tubi is focused on on-demand movies and TV series, compared to peers’ focus on live, linear channels. And per the Nielsen Gauge from May, Tubi made up 1.8 percent of all TV viewing in the U.S. for that month, tied with Disney+.

“Tubi has spent the last decade honing our approach to vast, free and fun streaming in North America, and we feel that now is the perfect time to bring that recipe to U.K. audiences,” said Sud in unveiling the U.

Leslye Headland, creator of the new Disney+ series Star Wars: The Acolyte, will make her Broadway debut this fall with the Second Stage Theater production of her play Cult of Love. Trip Cullman will direct.

Headland’s play, making its New York premiere, begins performances at the Hayes Theater on Wednesday, November 20, with opening night set for Thursday, December 12.

Cult of Love will be part of the 46th anniversary season of Second Stage, which just won the Tony Award for Best Revival/Play for Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ Appropriate.

The company also announced today that its upcoming Off Broadway slate will include the New York premiere of Pulitzer Prize-winner Donald Margulies’ Lunar Eclipse, directed by Kate Whoriskey and starring Reed Birney and Lisa Emery.

After a relatively sparse decade of werewolf cinema, the early 2000s unleashed a new wave of fur, fangs and bone-breaking transformations. Nevertheless, Dog Soldiers was also bracing and innovative; Neil Marshall delivered a high-concept actioner bristling with colorful characters, entertaining melee, and, of course, ferocious lycans so dissimilar from prior celluloid renderings. While not exactly the first of its kind — Full Eclipse crossed genres back in the ’90s — Dog Soldiers did lead this sudden charge of hyper-violent and stylized werewolf films.

In spite of the saturation of American werewolves, these creatures can go wherever storytellers please. Marshall, perhaps inspired by England’s enduring Beast of Bodmin legend, created vague fakelore for his film’s scenic setting; the tranquil Scottish Highlands were really the hunting grounds for an old family of uncanny predators.

ABC’s Doctor Odyssey is adding another cast member to its staff: Sean Teale (The Gifted, Reign) will be joining Joshua Jackson as a series regular on the upcoming medical drama, TVLine has learned.

Heroes fans felt unsatisfied after the first reboot. It didn’t hold up to their standards. The series is set to make another comeback.

According to Deadline, Heroes: Eclipsed will be the spinoff of the 2006 reboot. The show’s creator, Tim Kring, wrote the new spinoff and has pitched it to NBC and streaming platforms.

Eclipse will take place years after the original reboot. A celestial event occurred on the show, resulting in the new logo. Casting has yet to be announced. Some familiar faces will return.

“New evos are being awakened and discovering powers that will change their lives,” the synopsis on Deadline reads.

It turns out Jimmy Fallon wasn’t the only late-night host who took to the roof to watch the solar eclipse earlier this week.

In a new behind the scenes clip posted to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’s Instagram account, Colbert and team are seen taking in the eclipse from the rooftop of the Ed Sullivan Theatre building, and on the street outside their studio doors.

Colbert is seen remarking on the crescent shaped shadows cast by the eclipse, while his dog Benny chews on a pair of solar glasses. As Colbert explained in his monologue Monday, the show changed its schedule so that the staff could bear withness to the once-in-forty years event.

Pink Floyd is currently hosting a special contest to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their iconic album Dark Side of the Moon. Yosh Bauer, a German artist / filmmaker / animator, took a piece of the song "Eclipse" and created this Mucha-inspired, mesmerizing two-min sequence involving a spaceship & space traveler. Pink Floyd have released a remaster of their magnum opus The Dark Side of the Moon, out now via Pink Floyd/Warner Music.

The polished-up edition of the album was originally released back in March with The Dark Side of the Moon 50th Anniversary Box Set, but this is the first time that the standalone Dark Side remaster is available on its own. Pressed on vinyl, CD, and Blu-ray formats, the physical package comes equipped with postcards, stickers, and a 24-page booklet commemorating the record, which Consequence recently crowned one of the greatest albums of all time.

Notably, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side remaster arrives just a week after embattled ex-member Roger Waters shared The Dark Side of the Moon Redux, a track-by-track re-recording of the album on his own terms. He teased it with some — ahem — interesting versions of “Time” and “Money.”
