This has to be one of the best short movies under 10 minutes ever. In fact, Cyan Eyed is so well-made and engaging that it didn't even feel like a seven-minute film; it felt more like a half-hour movie-and still left me craving more. Credit goes to the large production team behind this intriguing short story for delivering something so unique that it could easily become a full-length movie or even a video game.
While Cyan Eyed is an animated film with a steampunk aesthetic, it also draws clear influences from modern action movies and Japanese anime, especially in its action sequences and imaginative portrayal of characters and futuristic elements. The story revolves around a robotic rescue mission to save a young woman, who has been taken captive by a pirate-also a young woman-on a sky-floating pirate ship amidst the clouds.
Visually, this short film is absolutely stunning-easily one of the best I've seen in the short-film category. There's little to criticize, except that the humans could look a bit more realistic. Their more cartoonish, basic style feels like the only weak link in an otherwise phenomenal animated production. That said, I'd love nothing more than to see Cyan Eyed adapted into a full-length movie.
