How ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ series finale sets up ‘The Testaments’
Image
With the Emmy-winning adaptation of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid’s Tale wrapping up the six-season arc of the revolutionary June Osborne (Elisabeth Moss), fans can finally celebrate Boston’s liberation from the authoritarian clutches of Gilead. It’s been a harrowing journey for June since the show’s 2017 premiere, and she can't entirely celebrate with her daughter Hannah still behind Gilead’s borders. With Hulu hard at work on The Testaments, an adaptation of Atwood’s 2019 sequel novel set years after the events of The Handmaid’s Tale, audiences will get a greater degree of resolution over the future of Hannah and the rest of the women under Gilead’s thumb. Here's how The Handmaid’s Tale’s Season 6 resolution sets up for that highly anticipated follow-up.

How did The Handmaid's Tale end?

At the conclusion of The Handmaid’s Tale, the resistance group Mayday (in collaboration with the U.S. military) successfully...

Paul Thomas Anderson Returns With Guns Blazing in ‘One Battle After Another’ Teaser Trailer
Image
It’s been four years since Paul Thomas Anderson released his most recent feature film. But the director will return on Sept. 26 with One Battle After Another — and he’s coming back with guns blazing. The first-look teaser trailer for the film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti moving through different stages of life while dodging both literal and metaphorical bullets.

When Taylor first appears at the start of the teaser, her extended pregnant belly stands out in contrast to the machine gun she’s holding down the trigger on.

'The Handmaid's Tale' Sequel, 'The Testaments' Casts Lucy Halliday
Image
The sequel to The Handmaid's Tale— Hulu's popular and award-winning series based on the Margaret Atwood novel — continues to beef up its main cast. The series, titled The Testaments (like the book on which it is based), recently began shoring up its main team, bringing Chase Infiniti on board to play one of the three main roles, and confirming the return of Ann Dowd's Aunt Lydia. But now we finally know who will be the third woman to join the fold: and that honor belongs to actress Lucy Halliday.

Halliday — who co-starred in the acclaimed 2022 independent film Blue Jean — will tackle the role of Daisy, one of the three co-leads, alongside Dowd's Lydia and Infinit's Agnes. The story takes place approximately fifteen years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, where the last gasps of Gilead are currently being felt and still wreaking havoc on the populace of what once was America.

‘The Testaments’ Nears Hulu Greenlight; Chase Infiniti Joins Ann Dowd As Co-Lead Of ‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Sequel From Bruce Miller & Warren Littlefield
Image
Exclusive: As Hulu kicked off the sendoff of its flagship drama series The Handmaid’s Tale this week by announcing the premiere date for its sixth and final season, the streamer also is stepping up preparations for its successor, The Testaments. The sequel is nearing a series greenlight and has cast Presumed Innocent‘s Chase Infiniti as one of the three leads, joining The Handmaid’s Tale‘s Ann Dowd, who had been expected to reprise her Emmy-winning role as Lydia, sources tell Deadline.

Like The Handmaid’s Tale, The Testaments is based on a novel by Margaret Atwood. And just like the mothership series, the sequel is created by Bruce Miller who serves as showrunner. He executive produces alongside fellow Handmaid’s Tale executive producer Warren Littlefiend of The Littlefield Company, with MGM Television as the studio. Deals with other producers are still being finalized; filming is eying an end of March start in Toronto,...

Benicio del Toro Reteams with Paul Thomas Anderson For Next Feature
Image
After a relatively public first wave of production for Paul Thomas Anderson’s next feature across California, things have recently been kicking back up after a few quiet months. Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn were recently spotted in the northeast of San Diego at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, in scenes featuring high-speed cars, crashes, and gunplay as PTA is clearly making the most of his $115 million budget and IMAX release. Now, we have a new addition to the ensemble.

Benicio del Toro, who gave one of the best performances of his career as Sauncho Smilax, Esq. in PTA’s last Thomas Pynchon adaptation, Inherent Vice, will reteam with the director. The news was buried deep in a THR article about Hollywood layers noting under Steve Warren: “Clients Benicio del Toro and Leonardo DiCaprio will co-star in Paul Thomas Anderson’s next film — after del Toro finishes work on Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme.

‘Presumed Innocent’ Review: Jake Gyllenhaal Headlines an Apple TV+ Update That Doesn’t Feel Updated Enough
Image
Less than a month after his generally unnecessary Netflix adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s A Man in Full, David E. Kelley continues his visitations with the Ghosts of Literary Phenomena Past with Apple TV+’s eight-episode take on Scott Turow’s Presumed Innocent.

Presumed Innocent was released in 1987, and the twisty character study of Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor who finds himself on the other side of the justice system when he’s accused of murdering a former colleague, breathed new life into dramatic jurisprudence. It was a smash hit, as was Alan J. Pakula’s solid 1990 big-screen version, which kickstarted a tiny subgenre of Chicago-set films in which Harrison Ford either did or didn’t kill the woman he was sleeping with. Both the book and the film were accused of either misogyny or myopia in their treatment of their female characters; both were products of a moment at which...

Jonny Greenwood Confirms He Will Score Paul Thomas Anderson’s Next Feature
Image
File this evergreen headline under “no alarms and no surprises.” After working together on There Will Be Blood, The Master, Inherent Vice, Junun, Phantom Thread, and Licorice Pizza, Jonny Greenwood has confirmed he’s already started to work on the score for the next feature from Paul Thomas Anderson.

“I’m incredibly lucky that Paul indulges me and gives me so much time to experiment and compose,” Greenwood tells The Guardian. “That’s not usually the case in Hollywood, where the soundtrack writers are often very far down the food chain, and are sometimes given only a couple of days to bash out a complete score.”

This will mark the first time a Greenwood score will be heard in IMAX theaters as PTA’s currently untitled film has been set for an August 8, 2025 wide release from WB. With a cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris,...

Paul Thomas Anderson’s Next Film Sets August 2025 Release, Including IMAX Theaters
Image
Across his nine features thus far, Paul Thomas Anderson has never had a prime summer release, but that is about to change when it comes to his currently untitled, maybe Vineland tenth feature. With production still underway across California with the cast of Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, Wood Harris, Alana Haim, and Chase Infiniti, Warner Bros. has now set an August 8, 2025 wide release, including an IMAX run, for what they describe as an “event film.”

It’s not the first time the director’s work has been seen on an IMAX screen as his Thom Yorke collaboration Anima received a limited run in the format. Though no IMAX cameras have been spotted on set thus far, VistaVision cameras have been seen shooting in 35mm, which should look gorgeous if 70mm prints are made. The director also used VistaVision for Anima in 2019, which likely doubled as a test for this new feature,...

Banner Canal Plus Original ‘Infiniti’ Bows at Canneseries, Blending Sci-Fi, Kazakh Noir and Love
Image
Bowing in Canneseries official selection, six-episode miniseries “Infiniti” isn’t just for sci-fi aficionados, Empreinte Digitale producer Eric Laroche told Variety.

Co-produced between France and Belgium, the latest Canal Plus offering – created by Stéphane Pannetier and Julien Vanlerenberghe – interweaves multiple storylines, moving from the International Space Station (Iss) that suddenly goes silent to an investigation in Kazakhstan, where a beheaded, wax-covered body is found by a local cop.

Discouraged by his superiors, Isaak (Daniyar Alshinov) decides to solve the mystery, while French astronaut Anna Zarathi (Céline Sallette) pursues her dream of space travel.

“Having more than one genre, especially in a TV series, is very interesting. But one of them still needs to form the skeleton of the show. In our case, it’s the murder mystery,” says Laroche.

“I am not a big traveler, but I live for cinema and for series. The first time I went to New York,...
