I love Werewolves and all Wolfman stuff and I really looked forward to this Movie but I was really, really disappointed!!! I think Dog Soldiers is one of the greatest Werewolf movies ever and after hearing rumours of a sequel, which never came to fruition, I got really excited upon hearing about another Werewolf movie in the msking and had high hopes considering the leaps and bounds made with special effects but this story seemed to be unimaginative, rushed and had massive plot holes!!! VERY, VERY, VERY Disappointed!!!! I think that me giving 3 stars is very generous TBF!!!! I hope that future Werewolf movies are to similar standards set by Dog Soldiers, American Werewolf in London and even Silver Bullet!!!!!
It didn't take long before I felt a need to switch it off, but I love werewolf films so I pushed through (fml). Werewolves is 90 minutes of the worse lighting I've ever seen. Almost every frame is plagued by a copious amount of lens flares. I don't know if it was an artistic choice, but it's incredibly distracting and makes this film seem really cheap. The acting is as average as it gets and I just didn't care about any of the characters.
The visual effects were shoddy and the werewolf designs looked like these creatures regularly go for botox. Asylum would do better than this, I swear.
Overall it's a forgotable film that offers the genre nothing new. I would recommend watching lesser known gems like Late Phases, Howl and the Ginger Snaps trilogy instead. This is just poop.

A year earlier, the super-moon brought out a billion werewolves out of nowhere. There is some unknown contagion. Everyone is preparing for the new upcoming super-moon and whatever may come.
I like the idea behind the concept. It is slightly different and new. It does need some more work. I would think that the world would come up with some better scientific ideas than a moon-screen. This is a big world concept and the lower budget does restrict it. Maybe they should do the first year story first. It could be 28 Days Later for werewolves. Oh wait! I guess this would have to be 28 Minutes Later.

Otherwise a solid dumb movie about society being turned in to werewolfs.
But the amount of flashing lights are insane and make the movie unwatchable. From the first turning point of the movie there are like 3 different sequences of flashing lights that are NONSTOP. Every time you think it's about to be over it just keeps coming back.
We watched two people walk out in the midst of the onslaught of strobe lights. We tried to stay with it for a long as possible but we found ourselves actually closing our eyes and covering our faces because of the lights.
Strobe lights, alarm lights, someone tiring the forking lights on and off. All of them all at once.

2.75/5 STARS - Werewolves is an independently financed and distributed horror/thriller movie by Steven C. Miller and starring Frank Grillo and Lou Diamond Phillips (in a minor role). I'll be honest, Grillo + werewolves was the main reason I wanted to see this film. The best way I can think to quickly summarize the movie is to say that it's like The Purge, but with werewolves. The premise of the story is that it's a year after a supermoon has first triggered a werewolf gene in the population and the second supermoon is on the way while scientists work to figure out a cure. As you can imagine, things don't go according to plan. Grillo is great in this, as always (and I couldn't help but notice the multiple eye candy moments given to the audience to show off his impressive physique), but some writing issues (which I won't go into here) hold this back from being a half star to a star higher. However, the impressive visual/practical effects of the creatures work in its favor - especially considering the indie/low budget nature of the production, giving it an extra half star to one star more than I might have rated it otherwise. Overall, Werewolves is a fun enough viewing experience for fans of action/horror - and lycanthropes. Werewolves opens in theaters this weekend.

- TriviaThe title "Year 2" confused some people who thought this was a sequel. But the title refers to the year after (i.e. second year) an event that leads to people becoming werewolves.
- GoofsWhile driving, Wesley crashes into an empty city bus, despite the city being under a curfew. However the bus is clearly already crashed or being used as a barricade, not running its route.
- Crazy creditsThere were no animals harmed in the making of this film... except for werewolves!
