First of all they have picked the right housewive from the franchise for this role! The movie itself is fun, quirky and totally unrelatable. The cast just work well and I just loved this Christmas vibes madness. The storyline is not the strongest but it is entertaining and there are enough things happening to keep you enthusiastic ! Will definitely watch it again next year!
I'll admit it, I'm a RHW fan and love seeing Kyle in a movie. I watched this with friends and lots of wine. I believe that is the only way to fully enjoy the film as you really have to check your brain and not count the cliches.
The problem with this movie isn't the simple premise or the heavy-handed acting but that the two main characters are not equal in their behavior. You'll know from the trailer two neighbor are best friends are falling out. As they argue and fight Diana, not yet a year from her husband leaving her, is frustrated and expresses resentment while Trish becomes mean. Trish throws a drink on Diana is what looks like a Target when Diana calls her out for cheating at game night which is something we're told she always does. It seems like an extreme overreaction. Trish also mocks her painting (Diana is an artist with a gallery in town, it's not a hobby) and throws a dig in at Diana about her ex-husband's new wife. Again, the husband left just under a year ago and is already remarried. That's not something you would use against your best friend. I know it's a movie but this difference in the escalation of the fight between the ladies makes for an unbalanced flick where I do not want these two to fix their friendship and feel Diana is better off without toxic Trish. We also see Trish overspending knowing financially her family needs to cut back. This is a woman who doesn't seem to really care about her family or her friend.
Otherwise it's a fine and dandy Christmas flick. I guess the Grinch was the hero of his own Christmas movie.

You don't have to be a fan of the Housewives shows to enjoy this movie, (although if you are there are some fun little cameos scattered throughout). This is just an enjoyable Christmas movie that doesn't necessarily follow the whole "Hallmark" cliches. Two best friends basically begin to fight and compete with each other over who's house will win the town decorations contest. Meanwhile their children (who are now young adults) begin to fall in love. And a newspaper reporter begins to follow the women and report on their drama. That's about it. But Kyle Richards was really funny playing the town drama queen. And if you DO follow the Housewives, you'll recognize a few of them playing the townspeople spreading gossip about the ladies. Don't think too hard on this one. Sit back with a glass of rose and enjoy!
I actually had low expectations going into this. Admittedly I wanted to see Kyle Richards because I am a fan. She had such a small part in Halloween Kills and I wanted to see her carry a movie. I thought she did very well and the movie was exactly what one would expect. Was it corny, predictable, and syrupy sweet? Yes it was. But it was very entertaining and I actually liked it. It was just a fun light-hearted movie for the family.
