When Ahmed decided to make his first full length feature film in Kollywood he was fully aware of all the necessary elements a film needed to be commercially accepted and appreciated. Keeping that in mind he scripted the story of Vamanan. It was initially titled as "Marainthirunthu Paarkum Marmam Enna" and it was reported that actor Jeeva will be playing the lead. However later it was reported that the project is titled "Vamanan" and that actor Jai will be playing the lead.
The reason for Ahmed to pick Jai as the lead was because he felt that Jai had the image of a 'Boy next door' and felt he looked ordinary yet had the skills of an actor.
