Don't believe the high ratings for this film!
These people must be paid shills who are inflating the film's quality for profit.
Historical inaccuracies and inconsistencies abound. "Okay" was not used until 1839. A bowl of obviously plastic fruit is set on the blacksmith's table. Swords are flimsy aluminum. Acting is at best 2nd rate. The horseshoes that the blacksmith is hammering are absolutely cold, and made for gaming, not for shoeing horses. After he hammers these cold horseshoes uselessly for a while, he hands them directly into the bare hands of a customer, and later his wife, even though he was holding them with tongs while hammering them, indicating that they were very hot!
After William and Twyla escape from the jail, the guard who pursues them suddenly just gives up and goes back to town, even though the escapees were only about 20 feet ahead of them!
Johanna was caught red-handed, holding her parents' heads in her hands in the middle of town, yet William screams out at her trial, "How many innocent people have been sent to the gallows by these so-called trials?" Apparently, William does not consider fratricide or matricide as crimes worth prosecution!
"Twyla" was not used as a name until 1965.
AntiChristian bias also abounds! The town priest is a sadistic psychopath who thinks it's his job to cleanse the filthy peasants of their sins by corporal and capital punishment. The gray-robed shaman says that the devil is nothing to be feared. And all religion is a lie based on fear. Demons are evil, but the devil is OK? WTF? Who's the chief of the demons? Wouldn't he be the devil?
DUH!
The old shaman also claims to be William at a younger age. But this begs the question, how did young William's huge nose shrink so much over the years?
Of course, we have more of the parallel universe string theory nonsense that prevails in way too many stories these days. Conveniently makes even the most moronically rudimentary plot too complicated to make sense of! Utter garbage!
I got swindled out of $5 to suffer through this worthless mess, but I am writing this review so that perhaps, in your universe, you will be wise enough not to repeat my painful error!
May the Farts be with all you motherlovers!

By gum, this is truly diabolical. Neil Marshall made a similarly-themed turkey a few years ago, yet this makes that seem like a bleedin' classic in comparison. No effort has been made here. Plot, acting, sets, wardrobes, dialogue, budget. One of the leads wears a terrible false beard throughout. Poor bugger, I felt for him because he seemed to show a bit more energy than the others; like a temp trying to get a perm job in the office. A well known newspaper suggested this was worth a go, but that rag's been going downhill too in recent years. I even paid for this on a streaming site, what was I thinking? I'm thinking I'll need to watch Captain Kronos again to erase this crud from my memory.

I rented, paid £4.49, and watched this movie because of the high scores given on this app... I'm partial to a scary/horror film but 3/10 is all I could rate this. Its a "D" rate movie...
The movie in general is predictable and not tense or scary in the slightest. Not once did I even experience a "jump scare"! The acting is terrible and not all believable.
The storyline is painful to watch. I'll never watch this again and I don't think anyone should even give it a chance. Do yourself a favour and give this a skip. There's an hour and 45 minutes of my Sunday night I'll not be able to retrieve.

So many reviewers seem to be hunting anacronisms like they are scavenger hunting in a trivia game. Come on, folks, we know this movie isn't perfect, but it definitely offers a few nice chills and aha moments. Drawing us in with atmosphere and mountig dread, subtly redirecting us away from the impending trial to the mysterious old man, then springing a new direction on the audience. As I said many times, delicious! Yes, I would edit a bit more ruthlessly and cut the whole thing by about ten minutes, but when I remember this film was made by sweat, faith and crowdfunding, I am blown away by its effectiveness! Kudos to Zammit and the whole team!

This extremely entertaining gothic horror story, co-directed by Craig Hinde and Mark Zammit, will keep you completely engrossed and on the edge of your seat the entire time.
Starring in Witch is the excellent Russell Shaw, who gives a remarkable performance as the mysterious recluse Thomas. Shaw undoubtedly has a great future ahead of him, and I hope to see more work from him.
Fabrizio Santino, Ryan Spong, Daniel Jordan, and Sarah Alexandra Marks all deliver outstanding performances as well.
Richard Oakes provides the stunning cinematography which is beautiful to watch.
Reece Sanders handles the visual effects masterfully, and they are consistently very powerful.
The stunning settings and costumes, which heighten the sense of realism and transport you to 16th-century England, are always well-detailed.
Imran Ahmed, a very gifted composer, has created an incredible score that enhances the historical context of England in 1575.
Strongly recommended; supernatural horror enthusiasts will adore it.

Witch sets a convincing stage in England's ugly past, creating a dreary atmosphere and a slowburn plot which builds steadily to a proper horror movie twisty finish.
Russell Shaw gives a standout performance, but the cast is solid throughout. I think we'll be seeing more of Sarah Alexandra Marks in the future as well.
In the final equation it's not a perfect movie but directors Hinde and Zammit have put together a solid effort for a modest budget, given the ambition of a period piece. Moreover, as a horror film, the pacing delivers a solid twist finish that leaves to me think we be seeing more from them soon enough.

Honestly?
1. As non native english speaker I'd know that in 1500 you would speak like thy/thou/etc , and not "what's up?". ESPECIALLY in England (dunno USA ).
2. Then come the effects. Sometimes reasonably good but never great (rather poor).
3. Actors' play is somewhat good but didn't make me fall of the chair.
4. Music... what music ?
5. Costumes bearable but NOT GREAT.
I could go on till I reach 20 or even 100 perhaps. But what's the point?
The movie I was so looking forward to (because of the trailer) seems to be great... Yes GREAT.
Disappointment.
Make yourself a favor and don't watch it.

Saw the poster and thought -wow! So much intrigue. Then I thought, not another cheap Indy film -how wrong could I be!! The film set was incredible! Cinematography on another level I really wanted to see more in the world of Witch... The story pulls you in from the opening scene (no spoilers)... Acting solid and even the lesser characters had their say.. what stood out for which a a lot of movies fall by the wayside is pacing.... Witch felt just right. Mr Hinde, Zammit and co deserve huge credit for making an incredible film. I loved it! Just to add...bit scary for kids especially under 15 8/10.

Witch 2024, This was a good film, without spoiling it to much .. I really enjoyed the different spin on the context of the story, it's very unique & has its own originality
The costumes, background & scenes were well designed The actors did a good job in maintaining their characters scenes & distributing their lines as well.
For a movie with a limited budget it was well done, so much that a family member though was watching GOT 😅 Near the end of the film I thought "oh this would be interesting if it had like a continuation in another TL" oh & after the credits I partly got my wish.. If you like gradual fantasy / horror movies that have intriguing story lines, with a hint of eeriness you should check it out, p.s there is also a hint of gore thou it's not over the top.. all in all it was a very good story.. that seem to hold a realism in it's unique story.
Thank you Marc, Craig & Skylarkvision, You did an amazing Job, much appreciated.

Despite a few low lit scenes, this movie is so poorly produced it's hard to get into it. Story idea is ok, but the costumes and sets are so bad it's distracting. The costumes look like they ordered cheap bagged Halloween costumes from Amazon! Except the scenes in the woods, the sets look like they were build by a high school theatre club. The blacksmith is working with hammer and iron outside a shack and without a fire. It could have been improved and still been cheaply done. Low lighting or artistic photography would have improved it a lot. If there's nothing else that looks good, it's not a total waste of time.

I'm saying that I share spoilers because I'm giving away how horrible of a movie this is. So much potential if only someone had done any sort of research. The philosophical ideas hitted at were so dumbed down, you would think they had seven years in mind when writing the dialog. The over and under acting are almost in equal measure. Most much of their attempts at clover foreshadowing is waisted. Nothing feels organic, be it the costumes you can buy straight from temu for $45.79, or the concern shown or expressed for one individual, then blatant disregard for what is gathered to turn guilt away or help defend them, so it can be used later in away so unimportant, a little more thought into dialog or time line could have rendered it mute. The big twist is as sorry as the idea of "and it all was a dream" the only reason I watched it completely was in hopes that I would be surprised at it getting better. Surprise surprise it was still a waste of time.

A chilling watch which spooked me.
The plot twisted and turned so you were never sure what would happen next.
The main characters were convincingly scary; in particular, it was the possessed witch's snippets from a nursery rhyme, the evil words said by the Town's judge at the witch's trial and the dark foretelling of events to come from the townsfolk that kept me watching and involved in the storyline.
The set, sound and costumes all worked together to provide a professional backdrop to the horror that unfolded.
Although the storyline borrowed themes from more traditional horror stories, it did so in a highly creative and original manner.
Highly recommendable watching.

Well worth waiting for this release. With some terrific locations, and some great performances, the 16th century fear of witchcraft and life at that time was perfectly captured. A tremendous amount of work and research has gone in to creating this film. Some great vfx by Reece Sanders ( loved the apparitions), excellent sound ( something that can let a film down) and super scoring ( Imran Ahmad), all of which really helped enhance the atmosphere. A strong cast, authentically costumed by Jenny Anderton. Congratulations to Directors Mark Zammitt, Craig Hinde and all involved. Well worth watching.👏

I went into this thinking it was going to be a run-of-the-mill horror movie, as I had seen no press for it before running across it on Amazon Prime. If you want to consider the way women historically been portrayed and treated, then yes, a bit horrifying to see it in play.
But I found it to be an intellectual, genre-bending new take. It's not a trifling hack-fest. It's an intriguing little mystery, a smidge of what-if, a refreshing period piece written for today's audience wrapped in a tale of a man's eternal love for his wife and the lengths he will go to protect his family.
The negative reviewers on here probably haven't capacity for nuance in film, and where there are many movies to better suit them, if you don't want to think a little, avoid for simpler matter.

This film takes you on a thrilling journey set in England 1575.
The storyline was very well written with some great moments.
The acting was very good and gave a lot of screen time to each character so I could really get invested into watching the performances.
The setting was brilliant. It felt authentic to the era of 1575, with great attention to detail too.
The music was nerve wracking at times which I felt helped make it feel sinister.
The directors did an amazing job with this film and the production value feels very high.
I'm really excited to see what their next films will be.
Definitely a film I recommend to anyone.

Loved this movie from start to finish. Witch Will keep you guessing through the entire movie. I normally can guess what happens before it happens, ecstatic that I could not. This was filmed in a beautiful setting that fit the time period. Loved the casting for each role, perfectly chosen! Well pieced together. I don't have a complaint, not one. I would love to see it on the big screen. For a Time piece, I would watch this over and over again like I did, "Robin-hood, Prince of Thieves". I can see this becoming a classic in my collection. A job well done to the cast, crew and production team. As well as anyone else I did name.

Been waiting a long time to watch this movie and had high expectations and you know what the filmmakers didn't fault.
Cast and crew put a lot of hard work and passion into this title, great storyline keeping you thinking on what is going to happen next.
Good little twist in the plot to make you go wow wasn't expecting that. This is definitely a movie that I will go back and watch again.
This movie has got me wanting more from these amazing filmmakers, I cannot wait to see what they will bring to the table next.
If you like your spooky/fantasy movies then this definitely one to see. Fantastic movie 10/10.

Which witch is the witch? This is the real question with a surprising answer. While you're pondering the question, you get to sit back and enjoy the amazing atmosphere that is delivered by this film. This is only elevated by the music, which really sets the tone for the horror elements of this film.
The story really surprised me it was so much more than what the trailer led you to believe. If you go in thinking this is solely a movie about a witch trial you are in for a suprise. The story telling is amazing which leads to a truly unique and memorable experience. This is definitely a film I would rewatch.

This film was a great watch I really enjoyed it. The story line was really good and the acting , costumes and effects were brilliant.it had some comedy in it to with the guards one played by Danny Howard who was really funny.highly recommend this film. I liked the fact that the film started at the end of the film and then showed what happened leading up to it and returning to the end at the end. The effects were extremely clever and again the acting was second to none. I would watch this film again and again and highly recommend everyone to do so.well done to the cast and behind the scenes , who must have worked extremely hard. Great watch.
