This is a fabulous thriller with a very unexpected ending. It is well written and marvelously acted. I really thought I had this one figured out but boy was I wrong. And, it is rare that movie endings satisfy me. This ending was just perfect and well thought out.
The cinematography was beautiful, and we loved and enjoyed the great Pittsburgh scenes. The casting was thoughtful with actors and actresses realistically portraying the characters.
I almost never want to see a movie more than once; however, I can't wait to see this one again. It kept me absolutely enthralled the entire time.
Well done!!

Basic Pscych is a tightly scripted drama written by a physician. Benefiting from his professional experience and insights, Jim Tucker introduces the viewer to several dilemmas facing medical care providers when they are sought out by disturbed and frankly scarey patients. Is the patient being truthful? Is he a danger to the doctor and his family or to others? Is it proper to continue providing care or is it ethical to abandon the patient?
The intricate plot and several subplots challenge the viewer to attend to the subtle clues seeded within this story of a psychiatrist entangled with an apparently dangerous patient. The resolution of the plot is surprising, but as one reconsiders the totality of the movie, the ending should be no surprise.
Your close attention will be well rewarded as you watch Basic Psych.

Here is a movie that gets right to it! As a longtime songwriter, I have learned a phrase that works
" don't bore us get to the chorus"
As a long time movie fanatic, I assure you, "basic psych" put you on the edge of your seat early, and keeps you there.
Great acting, great dialogue, and multiple plots, along with a "cool" twist makes this movie a must see.
Director Melissa Martin, and writer Jim Tucker certainly worked well together to bring Jim 's script alive on the big screen. There are wonderful camera angles, and shots, and the lightness and darkness of the film works perfectly with a storyline, which is based around a mix of happiness, anger, distress, and suspense.
This film was shot in Pittsburgh using numerous locations which made it great fun to watch for a long time "Burgh" dweller.
Writer Jim Tucker brings us a great plot, characters, and dialog and delivers a thought provoking, suspenseful, thriller, that I enjoyed very much.
There is a great cast in this film, all delivering powerful and believable parts. I was drawn in, on board and buying it immediately.
Again, I consider myself a bit of a movie connoisseur. Movies that I "love" I can watch many many times over changing my visual gaze from foreground to background inside of each scene
I enjoy thinking outside the box of where the writer might have been trying to take us.
I also enjoy noticing strange camera angles, interesting shots, cuts and edits.
This film was full of all of the above
My only complaint and possible shortness as far as this review goes is I've only seen the movie once
Again, as a reviewer with a voracious appetite for movies and the art of "movie making" I could watch this over and over again........so could you.
I give it two thumbs up, and the standing ovation!!
Now, " when can I see it again?"

I have watched Basic Psych three times. The first was the most suspenseful. It captures you from the very beginning. As not to ruin the movie's suspenseful drama, I will not provide my second and third time comments. Although I will say that each time I watched, I learned something new. The character development between the patient and the psychiatrist was exceptional. I enjoyed watching the scenes of Pittsburgh and the reference to the Pittsburgh Glass Factory Center. It's a wonderful movie that leads to a great dinner or evening conversation afterwards with friends. Basic Psych is a must-see at least twice!
A masterful Whodunit! The plot develops from the opening scene with the characters intertwining and creating an intense, unexpected drama. With expertly crafted suspense, a psychiatrist and his patient create a palpable tension that never lets up. The screenplay is tightly woven, the acting is first rate, and accomplished actor Michael Cerveris delivers another standout performance. With many twists and turns in the final minutes, this unforeseen outcome is not revealed until the last climactic scene. An excellent movie! See it a second time to catch all of the nuances that you might have missed.
