    Diamond Dating

Even though Diamonds are made from Carbon, they are millions of years old way beyond the capabilities of a Carbon 14 test.

If some other radioactive material was trapped in an inclusion in a diamond, and could be analyzed, it would not return a date of 10,000 years.

This is what comes from watching a show made by people who are upside down!

    Not spoiler, just science!

Let's carbon date metal, and "run" from a smilodon

Look, I have no problem suspending disbelief with a main premise, but EVERY detail of this show is ridiculously idiotic. You don't run from a predator unless you are running a few feet to get back in your car or an enclosure, especially a large cat. Everyone, especially everyone in California where there are mountain lions, knows this triggers a predatory response.

Everything that comes out of the mouth of the "Eve" character shows she has no knowledge of surviving a day hike at disneyland, and her instincts are worse. Yet she is clearly being set up to be a leader which is insane insult to audience.

Also anyone who has taken high school chemistry-- never mind a PHD in paleontology , knows you cannot carbon date material that was not once living in the past 50,000 years. Unless that dad was REAL cheap and that engagement ring is made from wood or bone, instead of gold and diamond, you can NOT "carbon date" it.

These idiocies are not necessary for the plot, nor do the 20 or so completely foolish plot holes and absurd actions one sees in 30 minutes require a lot of research to avoid. It is just lazy. Clearly the makers of this mess have zero respect for their audience and think the demographic of viewers is in the 80 IQ range.

Terra nova + lost = La Brea What does it matter?

Does a zombie or a superman match science?

Much better than the Vampire, Zombie and Superpower series.

    This is so bad

Anyone marking this show more than 5/10 is either mentally challenged or a relative of the writers.

Carbon dating the metal macguffin is not possible - cos, spookily, it ain't got carbon 14 in it. Also if it had been in the ground for 12,000 years it wouldn't come out shiny neither.

Do these writers ever think to run their script by someone without brain damage?

    No science. All fiction.

Well, it had some promise. I was willing to forgive the cheesy props in the pilot. But now, they're just acting like we're idiots. When Eve says, "Those are the Hollywood Hills," how hard would it have been to get a Hollywood crew to shoot the real Hollywood Hills instead of just showing us a few mounds of dirt? It would have added such a measure of intrigue. Instead, we just scoffed.

Plus, no government bureaucrat would say that "we can't authorize an exploratory mission" (to investigate what's beyond the light) because "we don't know for certain where that light leads." Of course you don't know! That's why you have to investigate it! Duh.

And, as if many American kids aren't struggling enough to get a decent education, they have just been told that you can "carbon-date" diamonds.

This is a major flippin' network. Doesn't anyone fact-check?

    • Trivia
This episode was dedicated "In loving memory of Dierdre and Leela Naughton." Dierdre was the special effects supervisor on the series. She and her young daughter, Leela, died in a house fire in July 2021 at their home in Tallarook, Australia.
    • Goofs
They use carbon dating to find out that the ring was in the ground since 10,000 BC. However, carbon dating only works on organic material.
    • Quotes

Tony Greene: You know, Billy, as much as you hate looking at the bright side of things, it does exist. No more internet. No more news. Today's the first day in years I didn't read an apocalyptic headline.

Billy Fisher: Except we're living the apocalypse.

Tony Greene: Didn't we just talk about staying optimistic?
