    a girl

A little girl becomes orphan after the death of her ill mother. Her uncle, who becomes tutor, a priest, is more than abusive . Her friends - dolls from a Medieval characters collection .

They are the source of her happiness and ...revenge.

The great virtue of this short animation - the realism of stor-, the perspective of child being beautiful reflected. The second - the puppets / dolls . And, sure, the final.

    A Dark Stop-Motion Fable

This short film blends mesmerizing stop-motion artistry with a deeply unsettling story of trauma and obsession. Critics praise its intricate sets, unique designs, and haunting atmosphere, while warning of its disturbing themes. Both grotesque and beautiful, Pocket Princess stands out as a chilling yet unforgettable animated fable.

    Pocket Princess Review

Alright, so Pocket Princess is basically one of those little stop-motion flicks that hits way harder than you'd expect. On the surface, it looks like some cute, handmade fairy tale - but trust me, it's got a real dark, emotional punch. It follows a girl named Anna who's dealing with some seriously messed-up stuff at home. She ends up escaping into this little fantasy world with her dolls, and that world turns into a kind of twisted fairytale that helps her deal with her reality.

The vibe is totally unique. It's got this handcrafted, slightly creepy atmosphere that reminds you of something out of a Tim Burton or Coraline kind of world. The animation is super detailed and everything feels like it's been carefully put together to create this moody, kind of gothic tone. So yeah, it looks like a kid's story on the outside, but it's definitely not one.

In a nutshell, it's short (just over 9 minutes) but it really leaves a mark. The story's about how this little girl uses imagination to turn her messed-up situation into something she can survive. And the director, Olivia Loccisano, nailed that balance between something that feels a bit magical and something that's honestly pretty heavy. It's a small film that sticks with you longer than you'd think.

A macabre twist on the Disney Princesses stories.

Done in stop motion animation, the short film follows an orphaned little girl who endures the abuse of her priest caretaker. She escapes her reality by playing with little dolls in a toy castle that seemingly comes to life and tells her how to escape her abuser.

Despite its initial appearance, the film tells a heartbreaking tale that is, unfortunately, all too familiar in the real world. By using stop motion animation, the message becomes an allegory instead, conveying its urgency through the lens of a fantasy world. The juxtaposition between the innocent visuals and the darker meaning creates for a heartbreaking scenario. The main little girl's sad plight is something you'd find in a lot of children's stories and fairy tales, but the way the story develops would truly surprise you.

The animation has a distinctive style and detailed craftsmanship that are pleasant on the eyes. There is a slight eerie vibe thanks to the character designs, the background score, and the grim storyline itself. It's kind of Tim Burton-esque that way.

Pocket Princess Stays With You Long After It Ends

Pocket Princess is a beautifully moving short that proves just how powerful stop-motion storytelling can be. The film follows a young orphan girl under the care of a priest, and while her reality is difficult, the way she escapes into her imagination is both heartbreaking and uplifting.

What struck me most was the attention to detail in the animation. Every frame feels handcrafted with love, and it gives the characters a tangible presence that CGI simply can't replicate. The atmosphere is tender yet haunting, pulling you into the little girl's world and making you feel her struggles and triumphs.

Beyond the visuals, the emotional core of the story is what lingers. It's a reminder of how imagination can become a form of survival how even in the harshest circumstances, creativity and hope can light the way.

At its heart, Pocket Princess is more than just a short film, it's a piece of art that stays with you long after it ends. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates indie films, stop-motion animation, or heartfelt storytelling.
