FYI, I'm over 60, and not a big fan of video games or Mage type anime, but I don't really think that comes into play.
This anime looked promising. A man who has been in a coma for, i don't know, 20 years?, wakes up with the tale that he was actually in another world the whole time. So, I thought it would be a fish out of water type anime. Instead, it's a very disjointed Mage anime, and there are SO MANY Mage animes.
In the beginning, it was amusing, not LOL, but amusing, and sad because all his references are not only from the early 2000s, but those of a teenager. It was also sad to think that his family fought over the money it would take to keep him cared for while in his coma, and they quickly abandoned him. Though I understand the financial hardship that his long term care would have caused, what could a 17 year old kid have done to be abandoned by his family like that? Well, they never did go into that. At least they haven't by episode 10.
It's just another repetitive anime, where the same basic story is told over and over -- dragon, monster, other magic users, it doesn't matter.
What a missed opportunity.

Finding this series was completely unexpected and I'm glad I did! Isekai Ojisan (Uncle From Another World) is a unique twist on the Isekai genre. Instead of someone being transported from our world to a fantasy world and watching their journey unfold, we instead start at the very end, after they are transported back again. As the story unfolds, we get to see Ojisan (Uncle) become acclimatized to our world again after being gone for so long. With the help of his nephew, Takafumi, we find out what happened to Ojisan in the other world as he tells his story (memories) through a magical projection. We find out very quickly he wasn't exactly the hero we're used to seeing, was constantly discriminated against, and is embarrassingly socially inept. As the synopsis explains, Ojisan may have come back to our world, but gets to keep his magical powers. This is actually handled quite well, adds to the story, and never goes over the top.
Personally, I would recommend this series, especially if you're a fan of Isekai genre. Can't wait to see more!

I absolutely loved this! Laughed so hard I cried. I can't say how much I didn't know I needed to watch this anime and am dying for a second season. The humour is mixed in with dark references that made my heart delight.
It's something many gamers can relate to (being left out, being socially awkward, having gaming or anime references only a certain few know, not picking up social queues.) it was a delight.
Especially how the hero wasn't exactly the shining light you usually get in anime's (handsome, amazing at combat, good with the ladies, good with his words.)
Uncle was just quite loveable and he's worth getting to know by watching it. Give him a shot and watch this so I can get my season 2 will you :)

One of if not the funniest anime I've seen. Excellent story with great characters and character-building.
It honestly boggles my mind that it has a mere 7.5 rating here. The cultural references to things such as video games, anime, and the internet is awesome.

This is just brilliant fun through and through. Uncle is an awesome character, the stories are fun and filled with comedy. It's a completely lighthearted with some elements of harem anime as uncle does have a following of 3 girls in the other world.
I can't get into too many serious anime's like AoT, I like them but they require more investment into understanding the complex story lines. So I love these anime's, easily bingeable. It's in line with anime's like One Punch Man, The way of the Househusband, The Devil is a part timer. Very easy to watch, no need to invest too much grey matter to enjoy it. Superb!
