Apostol Karamitev

The documentary "Apostol Karamitev" by Max Freeman turned to be a very special cultural event for the Bulgarian audience. Not only because it is very well done as a film but because it resuscitates one of the most loved actors in cinema and theater during the second half of the 20th century in Bulgaria whose name is till now and will be in the future a legendary name. The numerous films in which Apostol Karamitev had a leading role turned to be the classic of Bulgarian film art that is rediscovered by each new generation. And the fact that the documentary "Apostol Karamitev" is made by his son Max Freeman adds the additional value of a very personal approach to the whole life and the achievements of the very big actor Apostol Karamitev. Therefore this film won the Best TV Documentary Award by the Bulgarian FILM ACADEMY 2011.

An intimate and inspiring documentary. Highly recommended! Many of us have never heard of the great Bulgarian actor Apostol Karamitev but , through this documentary done by his son, we come to know the actor and all that he accomplished. There also is the very heartwarming aspect that this is a love story of a son rediscovering his father. Max Freeman does a wonderful job of taking the viewer along on this very personal journey to know who his famous father was and, in the process, discovers his own roots. This film won a 2011 Honorable Mention at the Chagrin Documentary Film Festival and Max's remarks at the award ceremony left not a dry eye in the audience. Viva, Apostol Karamitev!
