OK so at first this is a strange episode. It's difficult to figure out how it connects to the rest of the series. It concerns an eccentric elderly German couple in 1942, who receive a visit from the Gestapo, who tell them they received an anonymous tip that they were harboring Jews in their house. It would be a great disservice to provide any further details. Except to say that it's...just awesome.
This series is a 7 for me. I liked it but did not love it. This episode, however, is a straight 10. It's just flat out great, and it doesn't really matter much how it connects to the main story as a back story for one newly introduced character. You can watch this episode and not even watch the rest of this series, and it's still great. In fact, I would have loved it had they made a full length feature film out of the episode instead of just making it an episode of Hunters. It's easily the best thing in the series.
The last thing I will say about it is that it is clearly inspired by the first scene in Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds." Though it plays out quite differently, the writers were clearly inspired by that scene.

My all time favorite Hunters Episode. All the pieces in the episode came together. This episode takes a turn from the main story line for most of the episode, at first you don't know why. This episode takes a story that has been depicted frequently in WWII media of keeping Jews hidden from searching Nazis. While it may be a commonly depicted, it has never been done like this. It is extremely creative, mysterious, emotional, intriguing, mixed with the action/violence typical for this show. It also ties in beautifully with the main story line. If you liked "Black Mirror", this episode has a Black Mirror vibe in all the best ways.
Much akin to "The Red Wedding", "Who Shot JR", "Who Shot Mr Burns", "Soup Nazi", this is one of the most memorable episodes of a generation. The storyline, the acting, the dialogue, the cinematography were exceptional. This single episode felt like a full feature film. It was so well done that I wouldn't be shocked if people shared they've physically experienced a sense of anxiety while watching. This truly could be seen as a lead domino for a prequel spin-off. Every Emmy season a cinephile will see one or two episodes of a series that they like/love and they immediately know that an Emmy nomination should, at the very least, be considered.
Very excellent production all around. If anyone who worked on this episode is reading this, you made one of the best bottle episodes of all time. Great writing and performances by the actors. Tense and weird dutch angles frame portrait shots with some ridiculous lens. The house is beautiful, great design in and out. Gorgeous lighting, but that's always been a strong suit I Hunters.
Easy to throw references and inspirations around but it really does feel like the show earned this with all the other crazy choices they've made this is like a perfect distillation of what that can look like moving together.

As people have been saying, a "stand alone episode" which to begin you, sigh a little bit because it's a bit off track to the main story, but once you're in the middle of it , you realise you are watching a masterpiece.
