When the kidnapper has Janet tied to the chair, she is gagged with a cloth tied tightly over her mouth. He removed the gag so she can talk. When he replaced the gag, he places it in her mouth between her teeth. Next time she is seen, the gag is again tied over her mouth.
When Jessica texts Ryan at the coffee shop wondering where he is. The text reads "to Alex"not Ryan.
