                Metro 2033 Redux

It is difficult to unequivocally assess Metro 2033 Redux as a bad or good game.

Metro 2033 Redux is suspended between a game and an adaptation of Dmitry Glukhovsky's book, with the latter aspect being excellently fulfilled, all fans of Glukhovsky's work will be delighted that they can independently control Artyom's fate, unfortunately as a game it lacks depth, soul.

The game leads us linearly through the plot from chapter to chapter, from location to location, not allowing us to even delve deeper into the specifics of the station - and what was done to Polis (or rather what was not done) was a crime - Artyom simply entered and left.

I would describe Metro 2033 Redux as a narrative game with elements of survival horror. The game's strong points are certainly its atmosphere. The title has a dirty, dense, disgusting atmosphere. Walking through the alleys of the Moscow metro, you can almost feel the mustiness hanging in the air, gnawing at your nostrils. The game rewards all explorers and players who sniff around the nooks and crannies of the metro. It is worth getting lost in one of the branches here, just to find some loot or keys to the safe located further away by one of the dozens of corpses.

And that's where the game's strongest points end.

The title has a lot of technical shortcomings. In each chapter, you can come across a few technical errors. In addition, I had the feeling that the ending was exaggerated by this mysticism - I would much rather watch the dirty, stinking corridors of the metro. And I completely do not understand the essence of the two endings, but I will not dwell on that here. I would give the game a rating of 8, but due to the technical problems I mentioned, my final rating for this game will be 7.

                S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Railway Edition

After being recommended this for years, I decided to finally delve into the cursed labyrinth of Metro 2033.

Having dabbled with the Stalker games, this feels like its spiritual successor in many ways. Atmosphere, creatures and tension all feel like they're directly from that series. What 2033 does different is streamline these aspects into a linear experience (really anyone playing "Metro" should expect a hefty portion to be on-rails) with more compelling themes.

I didn't realise there was a hidden good boi/bad boi system until halfway through the game. Turns out, it didn't end as well as it could have. But, it also turns out, I got a canon outcome. So really I won.

Definitely recommended if you want a solid, immersive shooter with fun mechanics and a world that tries to make it feel lived in. Besides the exposition heavy start, it really does succeed.

METRO: 2033 REDUX: Pt 1 of Metro Trilogy

METRO: 2033 REDUX (2010) is a fantastic FPS, survival horror game, and the first in the Metro trilogy. Inspired / based on the writings of the Russian novelist Dmitry Glukhovsky (The Metro trilogy), the game follows a young man named Artyom as he struggles through a dark apocalyptic Russian metro system and world, seeking help for his people. I rate this game highly because of my love and enjoyment for it, as well as for its replayability.

The gameplay itself is highly playable, mechanically. While the controls may take a little getting used to, it's fairly intuitive. Smooth controls, straight forward goals, and ever expanding storyline. This game also has a wide variety of enemies; everything from mutants to Nazi's. The story, music, characters and gameplay are all great, in my opinion.

The game is highly driven by the strength of the narrative, but as well as the interesting storyline, the game atmosphere is superb and dark. You feel the claustrophobic heaviness as you wander through the mutant infested tunnels, as well as the vulnerability while being out in the vast ruins of the above frigid, and radiated Russia.

The apocalyptic world is so beautifully conveyed via cracked and caving in tunnels, cob webs and dust, leaking pipes, rust covered walls, moss and rot, corpses and decaying structures. Everything is grimey, muddy, dusty, moldy, rusty, mossy and bloody. The atmosphere is tense and oppressive. I really appreciate simple details as well, like the need to wipe off the eye portion of the gas mask, which is frequently dirtied by mud and blood.

While at times the graphics (specifically character movements) can be a little buggy, overall, the fascinating storyline and atmosphere far overshadows any graphical or audio imperfections, at least for me.

On top if it, this game has some of the best "survival game" features around set in a realistic world, with unique ragtag gear, limited resources, ammo scarcity, medic aids, gas mask filters, gieger counter, face masks replacements, compass, lighter, analog watch, portable charger etc. The differant game modes make this game more challenging as well.

The world of Metro 2033 is both breathtaking and devastating in its visuals. And though you may think to wander, every goal and objective is very clearly stated in the clip board journal along with a compass pointing to the next quest.

"Man has fallen, struggling to survive within Moscow's metro. In the face of a new mysterious threat young Artyom must leave his home station for the first time, making a dangerous journey to the legendary Polis to enlist their help."

METRO 2033 really sets the stage for this epic survival apocalyptic trilogy. These games are among my favorite games ever. I personally have found them to be highly enjoyable. My cup of tea.

                Interesting....

I was hyped about this games but i was a bit disappointed at the end, in my mind this game was a 9/10 but in reality its was a 7/10 for me. I played it on the steam deck, the graphics were very nice, the story unfortunately didn't get me much but it was a fine experience. The thing that "killed" this game for me was the length difference f the game, I beat it in exactly 8,5, which for me felt very short. I swear in the last mission, in my mind I thought that there will be at least 8 hours left, and then you reach the final boss which was lame and you understand that the game ends there..... but for 2euros that I personally bought it, I definitely recommend it.
