Dinoshark (2010)

FAQ

Dinoshark

A broken chunk of an Alaskan glacier releases a prehistoric "dinoshark" that makes its way south to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where it begins to kill tourists and locals. Captain of the Fortune 500, Trace McGraw (Eric Balfour), and Environmental Science teacher Carol Brubaker (Iva Hasperger), aided by marine biologist Dr Frank Reeves (Roger Corman), try to convince local officials of the creature's existence. Of course, no one believes them until it's too late.

Dinoshark is based on a screenplay written by Frances Doel, Guy Prevost, and Porter Fox. Said to be a remake of Up from the Depths (1979) (1979), in which a giant shark-like creature preys on a Hawaiian tourist community, Dinoshark also has a plot very similar to Jaws (1975), the 1975 film that started the interest in shark attack movies.

Trace and Carol follow the dinoshark as it heads toward Paradise Beach, rife with parasailers, jetskiers, swimmers, excursion and sail boats. The dinoshark takes down a jetskier, a parasailer, and then goes for an excursion boat. In an attempt to lure the dinoshark away from the excursion boat, Trace jumps on the abandoned jetski and, as the dinoshark leaps at him, Trace tosses a grenade, hitting the shark in its left side. Yet, when Trace goes to rescue Little Eddie (Jack Everest Hite), the shark follows. Following closely on the boat, Carol spearguns the dinoshark in its only vulnerable spot—the eye—and then rescues Trace and Little Eddie. In the final scene, a chunk of a polar glacier breaks away, releasing dozens of dinoshark babies.
