That ending?!?!
I would've rated it higher. I thought for the most part this series did a fairly well job portraying the book until the ending. Of course there were other things I would've like to have seen- mainly bunny and covey's reunion. But then the way they ended it with like a cliff hanger as if there were more to the storyline. The book ending was better and the ending of the show was getting there and then they had to add this little mystery to Mabel's storyline. Like are you continuing the series-are you pulling some weird crappy series like big little lies when this would've been a perfect one and done season series? In until the last 3 minutes, it was a beautiful series.
Black Cake delivers an expansive family saga
Hulu's new show "Black Cake" is a must-watch.
This multi-generational saga, led by showrunner and executive producer Marissa Jo Cerar, weaves together elements of murder mystery and family drama.
It kicked off on November 1st.
Black Cake delivers an expansive family saga, showcasing mixed-race identities seldom seen in today's TV landscape.
This narrative also mirrors how a hidden dessert can reveal a tumultuous reality.
Beyond garnering critical acclaim, this eight-episode adaptation is a treat that mystery thriller enthusiasts have long anticipated.
The show breaks new ground by featuring a protagonist who is half-Jamaican and half-Chinese, offering a refreshing perspective seldom seen on television.
The casting of Mia Isaac, who hails from a Black and Asian background, - in the role of Covey, is a welcome breath of fresh air in the world of TV."

High Quality Production
This series is amazing. I almost turned it off because of the first 5 minutes... until I saw actor Glenn Turman. His presence on screen grounded the project for me. As I've watched more and more of the series, I am blown away by the storyline and the series' production value. The entire team has brought forth its 'A game.' If I did have a complaint, I am unsure if the storyline with the two siblings is valuable. Yes, it is valid for a book - not so much for a screen. Every time they were on screen, I wanted to get back to the actual story featuring actress Mia Isaac.
I highly recommend that everyone watch this series.

Excellent adaptation
This is a series that I have waited to see. The book was exceptional comprised of a story that was engaging and kept you wanting more. The series fleshes out the characters, extremely well, and unbelievably, rivals the book. Mia Isaac is beautiful, very talented, and she adds a layer to the teleplay that is exceptional. I especially enjoyed the costuming, because it was very much within the period that the story is set in. The way that Eleanor's hair is styled is truly a throwback from the era that I haven't seen accomplished this well in many other movies, and the settings, London and Scotland, are a beautiful canvas for a very beautiful story. There have been many books written by and about people of color in the last few years, and I have read many of them, but this is the first one that I found that was truly a good book and movie, that has not been hyped simply because it was written by a person of color. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys the telling of a good story.
I must add this addendum to my review for the simple reason that the ending of Black Cake was extremely disappointing. I don't like to make up an ending that should have been, and although I had given this series a ten, I changed it to a seven strictly based on the fact that the ending was very unfulfilling.

Love it!
I enjoy this series, different multi-cultural, geographical and generational. I love seeing new talent and feel all characters have a complex enough storyline that we should have a good 5 seasons.
I really love Eleanor. I'm a fan of time-travel- the script does a good job blending past, present for each of the characters without being confusing.
The character backgrounds are revealed with the right timing and having the background makes you understand and empathize with the character being spotlighted.
I hate I found this while the streaming is live - I prefer to binge watch... I'm forced to wait until next week.
